Fascination for fire arts

At the interviews the truth I spoke with the creator Alice Protopopescu about contemporary art, as a wearer form. I wanted to know how this art form defines, which is the contemporary jewel.

“It is a form of expression. Basically, it is a wearer art. It decorates the body and the soul, but at the same time it transmits a message,” he told me, with a clear smile.

Her passion for jewelry was born since childhood. “I destroyed all my mother’s jewelry and restored them as I thought. The first really conceptual piece I made it in the license, after graduating the glass-metal section at the University of Arts.”

The discussion with Alice, at the interviews Adevărul was an incursion into the artist’s workshop, where the access of ordinary people is restricted. From Alice, I wanted to discover how to make a jewel that is not only an accessory, but contemporary art, conetomporant design.

While the story, I discovered a vast universe. “I love them all – ceramics, glass and metal. It fascinates me everything related to the arts of fire.” This opening to various materials would define the artistic path.

The turning moment came to the Author Fair, Where he understood that the jewelry does not have to be only precious materials. “I saw an incredible diversity-themes, forms, materials. It was as if a new world would have been opened.”

Glass and metal: two opposite worlds

Currently, Alice brings the glass and metal together – two seemingly contradictory entities.
“The glass is fragile and removes me from the comfort zone, while the metal is my safety area, I feel that I can never be mistaken.”

What inspires it most often are the textures of nature: the nerves of a leaf, the striations of the tree bark or the fragility of a lichen. “The theme of my dissertation was the nature against civilization. Lichens and fungi are organisms with a vital role for the environment and people. Through my jewelry, I bring them a tribute.”

The experiment as a creation engine

When I asked her how important the experiment was, Alice told me: “It is the most important. The materials lead you, they choose what form of jewelry they want to become.”

In its creations, it has used glass that changes its color under UV light, and combinations between metal and glass generate unexpected effects. “It is precisely the wow side, my pleasure to experiment.”

This freedom also rediscovered at the jewelry school alchemia in Florence, where he received the scholarship won at the author 2024. “There I learned to be free and to worry less than how I do what I do.”

Jewelry as deck between artist and bearer

Beyond the visible beauty, the jewelry created by Alice becomes a bridge between the creator and the bearer. “If my jewelry gives birth to questions, emotions or even challenges, it means that it has fulfilled its role. It becomes a connection between me and the one who wears it.”

Thus, the artistic universe of Alice Protopopescu is outlined as a symbiosis between nature and civilization, between fragility and strength, between experiment and emotion.
