Structure of the school year 2025–2026: Complete calendar and news. What free days will the students still have except for vacations

School year 2025-2026 is going to start over a week and will last 36 weeks of courses. The structure that was published in the Official Gazette, by order of the Ministry of Education, brings five learning modules and so many holidays, with small differences at county level.

The new school year has a duration of 36 weeks of courses. It will start on September 8, 2025 and will end on June 19, 2026, with some exceptions for the terminal classes. The calendar of the new school year was approved by the Ministry of Education, by Order no. 3.463/March 4, 2025. The structure of the school year 2025-2026 is divided into five modules.

Five modules of classes

The structure remains divided on Five learning modules, alternated with holidays.

Thus the first module will take place between September 8 and October 24, 2025followed by a short autumn holiday.

The second module begins on November 3 and ends on December 19just before the winter vacation.

Courses start back after holidays, on January 8, 2026, And the third module will end on a variable date, established by the school inspectorates: either 6, 13 or February 20.

Fourth module will take place in the period 16 or 23 February – April 3, 2026depending on the local decision.

Last module is scheduled between April 15 and June 19, 2026.

Shorter but more frequent holidays

Students will benefit from five holidays during the year.

The first, autumn holiday, is scheduled between October 25 and November 2, 2025. The winter vacation will start on December 20, 2025 and will end on January 7, 2026covering the holiday period.

One of the news is the so-called “mobile vacation”, or the ski holiday, which will be established locally, in the range February 9 – March 1, 2026.

Spring holiday is scheduled between 4 and 14 April 2026again
Summer vacation will start on June 20to be completed on September 6, 2026.

There are also exceptions: the students of the eighth grade will finish the courses earlier, on June 12-2026, and the high school students from the 12th and 13th grades will end the school year on June 5, 2026.

Students from technological high schools and vocational schools will continue until June 26, 2026.

Additional free days

In the school year 2025-2026, the students in Romania benefit from several free days, in addition to the already established school holidays. These include:

October 5, 2025: International Education Day, according to the legal provisions and the collective labor contract applicable in education.

June 5, 2025: Teacher’s Day, celebrated annually on June 5, is marked in Romania as a free day for students and teachers in pre -university education, starting with 2024, according to the applicable collective labor agreement.

June 9, 2025: The second day of Pentecost, legal free day, according to the Labor Code.

The legal holidays provided in the Labor Code, as follows:

January 1: New Year;

January 2: The second day of the New Year;

January 6: Boboteaza;

January 7: Saint John the Baptist;

January 24: The Day of the Union of the Romanian Principalities;

April 10: Good Friday;

April 12: Orthodox Easter;

April 13: The second day of Easter;

May 1: Labor Day;

May 31: Pentecost;

June 1: the second day of Pentecost;

June 1: Children’s Day;

August 15: The Assumption of the Virgin Mary;

November 30: Saint Andrew;

December 1: National Day of Romania;

December 25: the first day of Christmas;

December 26: The second day of Christmas.

In accordance with Article 3 of the structure of the school year 2025-2026 approved by the Order of the Minister of Education no. 3,463 of March 4, 2025, these days no courses are organized.

“School otherwise” and “Green Week”

And this year, schools will organize the programs “School otherwise” and “Green Week”, each for five consecutive working days. The intervals will be established by each educational unit, but must be between September 8, 2025 and April 3, 2026.

The examination calendar

The school year will end with national exams. For high school graduates, the National Assessment begins on June 22, 2026, with the Romanian language and literature test, followed on June 24 by the Mathematics Sample. The final results will be displayed on July 9, 2026.

In the case of high school students, the 2026 baccalaureate begins on June 8, with the competences, and continues with the written tests starting June 29. The final results will be displayed on July 13, 2026.

A tense start

The beginning of the new school year is already shadowed by the dissatisfaction of the teachers.

The teachers announced that they intend to boycott the opening festivities, from September 8, in protest against the salaries considered insufficient and the lack of concrete measures to improve the conditions in the education system.
