The Minister of Education gives assurances to parents and students: School year 2025–2026 begins on September 8, despite the announced protests

The school year 2025–2026 will start on September 8, according to the established calendar, despite the dissatisfaction expressed by teachers and unionists, said Education Minister Daniel David.

“Beyond the controversies and upset we have each other, we finally know that we are interested in the students’ interest. The students will be received at schools”, said the minister, on Tuesday afternoon, September 2, in an intervention at Antena 3 CNN.

Asked if he would take his child to school on Monday, Daniel David answered yes, but he admitted that he does not know how many teachers will be in classes and how many will participate in the protest.

The minister stressed that the responsibility of informing the parents regarding the situation in each school unit rests with the directors.

“The responsibility is primarily the directors … the message must be clear, explicit. I ask this to all the directors and I will send an address in this regard, for parents to know what to do on September 8. Regardless of the forms of protest, the students will be received on September 8”, he said.

Also, Minister Daniel David recognized the teachers’ dissatisfaction, which he put on the crisis measures: “The salaries and scholarships are covered by the end of the year. The dissatisfaction are justified, we have no reason to see them, to recognize them.”

Daniel David, however, excluded a generalized scenario in which the schools remain empty:

“It would be a very sad situation for everyone, but it should be known at least beforehand. I don’t think it’s chaos, a crisis situation in which the unions intend to protest, but the connection and the message must come from the school unit director, from there the information must be in the parents.

The Federation of Free Trade Unions, the “Spiru Haret” Federation and the “Alma Mater” Federation announced a large protest action on the day of the school opening, against Law no. 141/2025, which he considers “the most serious blow to the Romanian education in the last 35 years”.
