The trap of a holiday in Egypt that agencies do not speak: “The sea can be impractical for hours”

More and more Romanian tourists relate unforeseen experiences in Resorts in Egypt, related to the possibility of bathing in red. Although travel agencies emphasize the beauty of water and coral reefs, the reality on the beaches can surprise, sometimes unpleasantly.

A Romanian tourist tells on a Facebook group of travel the unpleasant experience of a holiday in Egypt: “In our resort, it can actually enter the water to stay a little with your feet, and the level does not pass an ankle and then, a little further, is it not allowed, the depth level being 15 meters. Has anyone have a similar situation?”.

Other tourists confirm that the phenomenon is specific to the area.

“If you study a little before leaving, find out it is a pronounced reflux. There are a lot without reflux in Hurghada. Make trips on the islands and enjoy the Red Sea.”wrote Diana.

Another tourist adds: “Egypt (Hurghada, but especially the sharm) is recognized for the flow/reflux phenomenon present at almost all hotels. In addition, there are hotels where the water is quite small-and over a considerable distance. Moreover, this year I saw reflux also at hotels where, by tradition, it was not visible.”

Marine or predators currents

There are also situations where restrictions are not only about water level, but also safety.

“Normally, even if the water is 15 meters deep, swimming is allowed from the pontoon. It whistles you if you go too much. What you describe seems like a special situation, they are probably current or marine predators, so it is temporarily forbidden.”commented someone else.

Some tourists report similar experiences in different resorts:

“And at Titanic Palace it was the same, you go hundreds of meters to the deeper water, next to the pontoon you could barely make snorkeling among the corals,” says Mădălina.

“At Jaz Aquamarine, I think two kilometers if you go offshore, all the ankles is the water. Very crazy with flow-reflux”commented someone else.

On the other hand, there are hotels where the phenomenon does not feel so strong.

“At Xanadu there was no flow-reflux. From the shore it was beginning to deepen slightly, about 50 m at large it had 2 m. But the hotels without beach, usually, have pontoons from which you make snorkeling.”

Some believe that the problem occurs especially at cheaper springs: “Only those cheaper”, supported a group member.

“Flow and reflux are everywhere”

Finally, tourists experienced in Egypt stresses that the phenomenon is generalized, but differs in intensity:

“The flow and reflux are everywhere. At the hotels with reef and pontoon the phenomenon is visible and noticeable, in those with sand beaches is less obvious. Depending on the beach and the positioning of the hotel, the experience can be very different.”Marius wrote.

At some hotels, it is clearly mentioned in the description on the website of travel agencies that this phenomenon is pronounced: “On the seafront, pronounced flow and reflux, (there is a sandy lagoon). Ponton: yes (735 m), umbrellas, sunbeds, beach mattresses: free. Beach towels: free. Special shoes recommended.”

At some hotels it is specified that entering the water on the shore is possible only during the reflux: “On the seafront, his own sandy beach. The beautiful coral reef is an ideal choice for diving and snorkeling enthusiasts. Length 650 m (pontoon entrance, pontoon length 150 meters). Entering the sea on the shore – sand, possible during the reflux. ”

Holidays in Egypt remain spectacular, but tourists should know in advance that the flow-reflux phenomenon can turn the beach into an impractical space for hours. Choosing the hotel, the existence of a pontoon and the position towards the reef or lagoon make the difference between a successful holiday and a frustrating experience.
