Victor Ponta participated on Saturday evening in an event organized by the Association of Turkish Businessmen from Romania, held at a hotel in the capital, together with several senators and deputies who entered the Parliament on the POT, AUR or SOS Romania lists and who in the meantime left the parliamentary groups.

The former PSD leader was at the table with Virgil Zidaru, known as Makaveli, an influencer previously associated with Diana Șoșoacă and who would intend to run for the Capital City Hall, according to Digi24 sources.
Senators Petrea Dorin, Adrian Peiu, Liviu Fodoca, Ștefan Bortun, Clement Sava, Ninel Peia and deputy Călin Groza also participated in the meeting.
According to the cited source, Victor Ponta intends to form a new parliamentary group, made up of former elected officials of the POT, AUR and SOS Romania parties, but also of approximately 20-24 PSD parliamentarians dissatisfied with the party’s leadership. Currently, the PACE parliamentary group in the Senate has 11 members.
Victor Ponta was initially a deputy on the PSD lists, but was expelled from the party immediately after announcing his candidacy in the presidential elections as an independent. The decision was taken in a meeting of the PSD National Political Council, where the only vote against was that of Radu Moldovan.
During the event, Ponta took a photo with Makaveli, who posted the image on social media alongside the message “Don’t shoot the sheriff.” Makaveli already benefits from the support of the PACE parliamentary group in order to run for the Capital City Hall.
