In the evening of the game, Alessandro Bastoni was not included in the first “11” by coach Cristi Chivu, being left on the bench.
Inter won the match 2-1, continuing their perfect run in European competition. The joy of the victory was overshadowed by a shocking news received by the defender after the final whistle: his home had been robbed.
Four individuals broke into the house
According to the publication Gazzetta dello Sport, the incident happened in the town of Castelli Calepio, where Bastoni lives with his wife, Camilla Bresciani, and their daughter. During the match, four individuals dressed all in black allegedly broke into the house and managed to steal several luxury watches and bags.
The alarm system went off, but the robbery only lasted a few minutes. The thieves fled before the security team and the carabinieri arrived at the scene. Later, the police analyzed the images captured by the surveillance cameras inside and outside the house, in order to identify the perpetrators.
Fortunately, neither Bastoni nor his family were at home at the time of the incident.
Alessandro Bastoni, essential player for Cristi Chivu
The Champions League game with Kairat Almaty, which Inter won 2-1, was only the second occasion this season that coach Cristi Chivu decided not to use Alessandro Bastoni. The first time the Italian defender stayed on the bench was on September 21, in the Serie A match with Sassuolo, also won 2-1 by the Milanese team.
So far, Bastoni has made 12 appearances under Chivu this season, scoring one goal (in the league win over Torino) and providing three assists. Two of these also came in Serie A, in the matches against Torino and Cagliari, and the third in the Champions League, against Slavia Prague.
