In an interview given to the publication “Marca”, the Spanish tennis champion Carlos Alcaraz (22 years old, 1 ATP) talked about the infinite rivalry he has with the Italian Jannik Sinner (24 years old, 2 ATP).
“I think we are both obsessed with each other. Each of us is working to be better for the next match”, admits Carlos.
“He’s lost two or three games in the last two years, and the vast majority were against me. Jannik needs to see and think about what he needs to improve in order to beat the player he hasn’t beaten many times. It is logical and normal. I have lost to several players, but my goal is to improve and do everything I can to be a much better player the next time we face each other“.
Carlos Alcaraz does not have the Davis Cup in his record, which his opponent won twice in a row: “Sooner or later, the time will come. I’d rather sooner than later, but one day it will come“.
Despite winning six Grand Slam titles at just 22, Alcaraz believes he is still too early to be compared to stars like Nadal, his idol Federer and Djokovic: “I’m not close yet. Play until I’m 38 like Djokovic? I don’t know if I’ll make it to 33 or 38. I will take care of myself to make my career as long as possible“.
