A woman who was with her child at the pedestrian crossing, but they were not given priority, decided not to leave it at that. And he filed a report on the website of the Romanian Police. Only a few days later, he received the answer: the surveillance cameras proved him right, and the driver remained without a license for 60 days.

What the woman reported
“A week ago I was with the child, engaged in the crossing. I see a released bison come, look at us, see us and actually walk right past us. No thought to stop.
Normally I would get angry (..) and get over it. But because I was with the child, I decided to report to the police for the first time in my life”the woman told on the Reddit platform.
The notification was made on https://politiaromana.ro/ro/petitii-online.
“It took me a maximum of two minutes to complete. I passed the number of the car, the place and the time it happened. Today I received a response that the request has been resolved. After analyzing the cameras in the area, his license was suspended for 60 days and fined. I didn’t have to come to give statements, be called as a witness or any other hassles. The agent solved everything only following my petition and the finding based on the cameras in the area”. the woman added.
And he explained why he decided not to go over:
“Hundreds of serious accidents occur annually in Romania due to the failure to give priority at the crossing, many resulting in deaths. It’s true, many are also due to the indiscipline of pedestrians, who don’t take care of themselves
Advice, appreciated by people who have faced similar situations
People reacted positively in the comments. Some of them told that they faced similar situations at pedestrian crossings.
“It’s good that you told me. I was with the cart today, there is work in the area and the sidewalks are destroyed, and the curbs are like the ford on the river, you can hardly pass them with the cart because of how high they are. I reach the pedestrian crossing, I see in the distance a car coming at high speed and I stop. I say: <
“If it really works, that’s cool. Every week I experience the same thing with the little girl at the crosswalk in the park next to the block.” is another comment.
“Am I the only one who thinks that the Traffic Police could cover the budget deficit in a week, if they applied all the fines imposed on the “bisons” in Romanian traffic?”, someone else added.
Sorin Ene, defensive driving expert: It will be a life lesson for the driver
Sorin Ene, professional drift instructor and defensive driving expert, praises the quick response in this situation.
“I tell you honestly, in the first instance it was hard for me to believe that it was resolved so quickly and correctly, taking into account the legal provisions. (…) It is a step forward towards road safety. I encourage this attitude, not only among pedestrians, but of all traffic participants in taking such steps. Here, the online environment and technology help us in these very dangerous times – from the behavioral point of view of drivers in traffic – to solve these situations“.
The defensive driving expert also explains why such cases should be reported:
“It’s really a very important thing to show tolerance, to believe that the other person may have been wrong. But in these situations or in similar cases, I don’t think that these qualities of people should be applied: tolerance, indulgence, <
(…) This is the way to normality, to safety. That driver, I am convinced, more than likely did not expect the consequences of his action. And I’m convinced that it’s a life lesson, so that next time he’ll think ten times ahead when he wants to break the law or repeat this situation.”
Recommendations for pedestrians
Like the author of the post, Sorin Ene recommends great care when crossing, even if it is a pedestrian crossing.
“As we well know, drivers can have completely different occupations and other activities inside the car. Be very, very careful when you engage in crossing the street, even if you are crossing. As the lady also said, there were many situations when people died with the right hand. A wall is not erected between us and the car in such a way that it stops”he warns.
What the Police say about online reports
“Petitions addressed to the General Inspectorate of the Romanian Police are received non-stop, through the online petition form, and the petitioner receives quick feedback, in a very short time, through which the traceability of the petition can be established, an aspect likely to significantly reduce possible syncope generated by human errors”say the representatives of the Romanian Police.
