Jennifer Lopez went viral after her show at one of the most extravagant Indian weddings of the year, between pharmaceutical heiress Netra Mantena and New York tech entrepreneur Vamsi Gadiraju.
The three days of celebrations, held between November 21 and 23, took place in some of the most luxurious locations in Udaipur, such as the Jagmandir Island Palace on Lake Pichola and the sumptuous hotel The Leela Palace, writes The Independent.
The bride is the daughter of Rama Raju Mantena, of Orlando, president and CEO of Ingenus Pharmaceuticals. Mirele is co-founder and CTO of Superorder, a US-based software platform used by multi-location restaurants to manage deliveries.
The celebrations began with haldi and mehendi ceremonies at the Taj Lake Palace, and the sangeet was held at the City Palace complex, before the wedding took place at the Jagmandir Island Palace, a 17th-century monument in the middle of a lake, NDTV reported.
Haldi, mehendi and sangeet are pre-wedding ceremonies common in many regions of India. Haldi involves applying turmeric to the bride and groom by family and friends as a blessing and protection.
Mehendi involves decorating the bride’s hands and feet with intricate henna designs in a festive atmosphere.
Sangeet is an evening of music and dance meant to bring families together, but at high-profile weddings often includes celebrity performers.
Mantena and Gadiraju’s reception was held on November 23 at Leela Palace, one of the most expensive luxury hotels in Udaipur.
Donald Trump Jr reportedly attended with his family and was photographed visiting the famous Taj Mahal in the neighboring state of Uttar Pradesh.
According to the Indian Express, Lopez performed some of her biggest hits at the sangeet ceremony on Friday, such as “Get On the Floor“, “Waiting for Tonight“, “Save Me Tonight“, “Get Right” and “Ain’t Your Mama”accompanied by dancers and having several costume changes.
The moment reportedly marked her first visit to India and quickly went viral on social media, with many commenting that “it seemed like a real concert”.
Saturday’s mehendi ceremony also brought in more Bollywood stars. Dia Mirza emceed the event and Madhuri Dixit performed a collage of her iconic songs before joining Cirque du Soleil artists for a performance of AR Rahman’s Oscar-winning song ‘Jai Ho’.
For the wedding, the bride wore a red Sabyasachi lehenga with traditional zari embroidery.
Although the exact figures are not known, NDTV estimates that the wedding cost between 7.3-7.7 million euros, including all expenses for venues, guest accommodation and artists’ fees.
