The new ambassador of the United States in Bucharest, Darryl Nirenberg, sent his first official message to Romanians on Monday, March 23, through a post on the X platform and a video message. The diplomat presented the priorities of his mandate and emphasized the importance of the strategic partnership between the two countries.
In the message published on social networks, the ambassador highlighted the direct connection with the American administration and its objectives in Romania.
“It is the honor of my life to serve under @POTUS as US Ambassador to Romania. I am here to get results for the American people and strengthen our ties with Romania, support our military partnership and advance America’s economic and security interests,” he transmitted.
In the video message, Nirenberg adopted a personal tone, talking about the common values between Romanians and Americans: “Hello! Welcome to our home! It is an honor to be the US ambassador to Romania. I am grateful to President Trump that especially as his personal representative in this remarkable country. I grew up in a small town in the rural area of New York state, where values such as faith, family, community and hard work formed me as a person. These values, which Romanians also share, are the basis of the strong relationship between our countries.”
The diplomat also spoke about his family, which accompanies him in Romania.
“With me is my wife, Lori, along with our dog, Gatsby. Our son Drew has already visited here. And we can’t wait to welcome our daughter Kelly soon. We are all looking forward to discovering the rich culture and traditions of Romania. The partnership between the US and Romania has never been stronger and more important than now.” he also stated.
Regarding the political agenda, the ambassador emphasized that he will support the directions set by Donald Trump, emphasizing three main areas: defense and security, economy and diplomacy.

Finally, Nirenberg recalled that 2026 is an important year for the United States, marking 250 years since the founding of the country: “This year is a very special one. The US is celebrating the 250th anniversary of our nation’s founding. It is a moment that prompts us to reflect on the enduring principles enunciated by our founders. Including respect for fundamental freedoms, principles we proudly share with Romania. Lori and I look forward to meeting people from all over Romania, learning from you, and strengthening the enduring friendship between our two peoples. Thank you!”
