The president of the Galaţi County Council, Costel Fotea, announced that, following the Government meeting on Thursday, March 26, concrete steps were taken to unblock the outstanding payments to the employees of the Liberty Galăţi steel plant.

“I’m glad that, at least now, at the 12th hour, solutions have been found to expedite the payment of outstanding salaries to the Galați steelworkers”Fotea sent on Facebook.

During the meeting, the Government approved the methodological rules for the application of the GD amending Law 200/2006, so that the Guarantee Fund can also be accessed for the payment of steelworkers’ salaries.

At the same time, the criteria were established for the identification of economic operators of strategic interest in the field of the Ministry of Economy, an essential measure for protecting the steel industry and jobs in Galati.

“Having these rules and criteria clearly established, Liberty Galati will be officially declared, by a future Government decision, as an objective of strategic interest at the national level, so that the Ministry of Labor can make the payments to the steelworkers. I am glad that our efforts were not in vain! I will continue to insist that the money for the outstanding salaries of the steelworkers be transferred as soon as possible”. added Fotea.

He especially thanked Deputy Prime Minister Marian Neacșu and the Interministerial Committee for their involvement in finding solutions, as well as Prime Minister Ilie Bolojan for supporting these measures.
