The Alliance for the Union of Romanians is preparing to file a no-confidence motion at the end of April or the beginning of May, the leader of the AUR senators, Petrișor Peiu, announced on Monday, March 30. The approach would be initiated immediately after the publication of the economic data for the first quarter of the year, which the formation considers relevant for the evaluation of the country’s economic situation.
The calendar announced by the AUR overlaps with an important moment for the PSD: on April 22, the social democrats called an internal meeting in which the party members will decide whether or not the formation remains in government.
AUR links the motion to economic development
Petrișor Peiu explained that the motion will be submitted after the publication of the official estimates regarding the economic result for the first quarter.
“According to the calculation that I have made and that I will propose to my colleagues, we will submit a motion of no confidence, this is the basic scenario, when the statement on the estimate of the economic result for the first quarter of the year is published, sometime in April, the beginning of May. Then we will see if we are in an economic crisis”said Senator AUR.
AUR’s position on possible alliances
Although he excludes any pre-electoral collaboration with the ruling parties – PSD, PNL, USR or UDMR – Peiu did not completely reject the possibility of AUR participating in the government in a certain context.
The only option considered would be the formation of a government with a limited mandate, whose sole objective would be the organization of elections.
“Before the elections, there is no formula for collaboration, except in the hypothesis in which we would form a limited-term government, for a few months, with the mandate to organize electionsi”, said Petrișor Peiu.
