USR Senator Cynthia Păun requests the intervention of the authorities to remove some billboards that appeared in Bucharest, which encourage future mothers to inform themselves about the benefits of natural childbirth.
“I gave birth twice by cesarean section, not because I “chose easily” or because I “didn’t want to give birth naturally”, but because it was the right decision, taken together with my doctor, for me and my children.
And now I look at these billboards in Bucharest and, frankly, it seems crazy to me. I really can’t believe that, in the year 2026, such messages end up being put in the public space, without any responsibility and without any responsibility.
They are statements without context, without explanation and without respect towards the women who read them, perhaps even at a time when they are more vulnerable than ever”. the USR parliamentarian sent, in a post on Facebook.
Cynthia Păun argues that childbirth cannot be treated simplistically and criticizes the transformation of a medical decision into a promotional message.
She points out that caesarean sections are in many cases a necessity, not a convenient choice, and that women should receive accurate information from doctors, not be swayed or judged by public campaigns.
The USR parliamentarian asks the institutions to intervene urgently so that these panels are “verified, sanctioned and removed immediately”.
“It is not normal for public space to be used to spread messages that can affect the health and decisions of vulnerable people. Responsibility is not optional when you communicate in public space. And the law must be enforced, not ignored.” senator Cynthia Păun adds.
In several areas of Bucharest, panels have appeared advising future mothers to inquire about the benefits of natural birth, to the detriment of caesarean sections.
However, the controversy arises from the way in which these messages are formulated, which some women perceive as discriminatory.
In addition, the panels do not provide any information about the authors of the campaign and do not include any link to an official website or source. This has led many to wonder who is actually behind them.
Last year, a 29-year-old policewoman gave birth at a private clinic in Constanța. Shortly after the birth, her condition worsened: massive hemorrhage / post-partum complications;
The woman, from Giurgiu, was expecting her first child, obtained through in vitro fertilization, after years of trying. She presented herself to the private maternity hospital in Constanța for the first time, having pains and contractions.
She gave birth to a healthy baby boy, but soon after, her condition suddenly deteriorated. The clinic staff decided to transfer to the Constanta County Emergency Clinical Hospital. Despite the efforts of the doctors at the county hospital, the woman died a few hours after giving birth.
From the official information, it turned out that the caesarean section was refused and then, after complications arose, the hysterectomy, which could have saved her life.
