When does school start after spring break 2026 and how many weeks do students have until the big break

After spring break, students in Romania return to school on April 15, 2026, when the last module of the 2025–2026 school year officially begins. According to the structure approved by the Ministry of Education, this period will mark the end of the courses and the entry into the stage of evaluations and exams, including for the National Evaluation and Baccalaureate.

Module 5 is the last course period of the school year and runs for 9 weeks, until Friday 19 June 2026, when the summer holidays start for most students. This period of approximately nine weeks is a critical one, during which the subject is completed, final assessments are taken and recaps are made for national exams.

During this period, students also have several legal days off. There are no classes on May 1 – Labor Day, on June 1 – Children’s Day, on June 5 – Teacher’s Day, and on June 8 – the day after Pentecost, which fragments the school program in the last part of the year, according to edupedu.

For eighth-grade students, an important date is May 4, 2026, when school inspectorates publish high school admission brochures, with information on places, specializations and the averages of the last admitted from the previous year.

Not all students will complete their courses at the same time. Students in the final grades have different calendars: 12th and 13th graders finish their courses on June 5, 2026, and eighth graders on June 12, 2026. In contrast, for technological high school education, the school year continues until June 26, 2026.

National assessments for 2nd, 4th and 6th grades in May

Also in module 5, the national assessments for the 2nd, 4th and 6th grades take place. Second-grade students take the tests between May 12-15, fourth-grade students between May 19-21, and sixth-grade students between May 26-28. These evaluations have an indicative role and are not included in the catalog, being used to adapt the learning process.

In the 2025–2026 school year, assessments also include pilot items targeting functional literacy skills with practical applications and interdisciplinary connections, according to the methodology of the Ministry of Education. The changes seek a better correlation between school and real learning situations.

The last module of the school year is also the period of national exams. The National Assessment for the 8th grade and the Baccalaureate exam take place after the end of the courses for students in the final years, according to the official calendar.

When do the national exams for the National Assessment and Baccalaureate start

Registration for the exam takes place between June 10–12, 2026, and classes for the 8th grade end on June 12. Written tests begin on June 22, with Romanian Language and Literature, followed by Mathematics on June 24 and Mother Tongue on June 26. Final results are displayed on July 8, 2026. Summer vacation starts on Saturday, June 20, 2026.

The Baccalaureate exams start with the skills tests, held between 8–17 June 2026, followed by the written tests between 29 June and 3 July. Final results are displayed on July 13, 2026.
