The head of Romanian diplomacy, Oana Ţoiu, had a telephone conversation with the future foreign minister of Hungary, Anita Orban, on Sunday, the discussion being focused on a new approach to Hungarian foreign policy.
“This evening I called Anita Orban, the future foreign minister of Hungary, to congratulate her on the electoral victory. It was the first official contact with a representative of the future neighboring Government, the occasion with which I shared the joy of this historic moment of change. I conveyed to her my admiration for the exemplary mobilization of the Hungarian people and ethnic Hungarians, but also to her team for a campaign built authentically, among the people. Yesterday’s result proved that no matter how great the control of some politicians over the power systems, it is not enough to preserve it indefinitely. The power of citizens who choose to demand a better future through voting is sovereign, and Anita repeatedly emphasized that yesterday’s election was a clear one: a change of regime. Our dialogue focused on a new approach to Hungary’s foreign policy, based on mutual respect and the common ambition to increase the quality of life of our citizens through greater collaboration At the same time, we reviewed the regional formats chaired by Romania this year, which we see as major opportunities to strengthen our common perspective in the region.”stated the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Oana Ţoiu, in a post on the X platform.
At the same time, Oana Ţoiu invited Anita Orban to visit Romania.
The opposition in Hungary won a decisive victory.
The party of Peter Magyar, former ally of Viktor Orban, can count on 138 mandates out of the total of 199 in the unicameral Parliament in Budapest. Instead, the former ruling party led by Viktor Orban would bet on 55 mandates. With a two-thirds parliamentary majority, the new government promises to be a stable one.
