The controversy regarding the alleged contacts between Olguța Vasilescu and PNL leaders takes on new nuances, after Sorin Grindeanu indicated Mircea Roșca, the president of PNL Prahova, as the one who contacted Olguța Vasilescu.
The controversy started after interim prime minister Ilie Bolojan publicly accused Olguța Vasilescu of trying to influence liberal leaders, suggesting that she had contacted them to tell them “what to do” in the context of political tensions surrounding the positioning of the PNL after the fall of the government.
In response, Olguța Vasilescu rejected the accusations and stated that the situation was presented the other way around. The PSD leader claimed that she did not contact members of the Liberated Party, but that she was called by one of them. To back up his claims, he posted a screenshot of missed calls on social media, without revealing the identity of the person on the other end of the line.
Despite the discretion of the mayor of Craiova, PSD president Sorin Grindeanu indicated, during a press conference held on Wednesday, May 13, Mircea Roșca, the president of PNL Prahova, as the one who contacted Olguţa Vasilescu.
In this context, in an intervention on Antena 3, Mircea Roşca confirmed that there were telephone discussions between him and Lia Olguța Vasilescu, but he insisted that they had no political connotations and did not concern the party’s strategy.
“It is extremely ugly what Mr. Grindeanu did, I did not use this conversation in any discussion, neither internally in the party nor in private. I did not speak with Mrs. Olguța Vasilescu, whom I knew and respect as mayor, I think since June”, he said.
“Six days before the motion, Olguța called me“, Mircea Roșca also declared, to find out about the “atmosphere” in the party.
The liberal claims that the relationship between the two is an old one, based on administrative collaborations and institutional communication that has been preserved over time, and that he sees no problem in the fact that two party leaders are talking to each other.
“The last picture she sent me was in June 2025. As you can see, the first phone call she gave me 5-6 days before the censure motion was a missed call. I called back, I had no signal, after which we had a conversation, she making no promises, no proposals. She was interested in what the atmosphere was like with us, I warned her that this censure motion was the biggest mistake”. said Mircea Rosca.
“It was a strictly friendly discussion, without any intention. Like any politician, you are curious about an atmosphere when you initiate… Her style of not discussing between us is very serious for Romania”, he continued.
PNL President Prahova claimed that she called Olguța Vasilescu “by mistake” after the censure motion. Mircea Roșca explained that the call would not even have been relevant, as it would have been initiated accidentally and would not have lasted more than 40 seconds, and rejected interpretations according to which there would have been discussions behind the scenes or attempts to influence the positioning of the liberals after the fall of the government.
“Furthermore, you see, the day before the motion, a call from me. It was a call by mistake, only 40 seconds. It’s the only communication with Olguța Vasilescu for a year”, explained the liberal.
Asked if he is in the pro-Bolojan or anti-Bolojan camp, Mircea Roșca avoided fueling the idea of the existence of internal fractures in the party, declaring that there are no “camps” in the PNL, but different opinions, and specified that he has no complaints against Ilie Bolojan.
We remind you that the name of Mircea Roşca was on the front page of the newspapers after he organized a party with numerous guests, immediately after the government meeting in which austerity measures criticized in the public space were adopted, attended by many PNL members, including Ilie Bolojan.
