Darius Olaru had an excellent debut at Union SG, following his transfer this summer from FCSB.
The Romanian international, who spent six and a half seasons in the red-blue jersey, chose to continue his career in Belgium, refusing more financially advantageous options, in order to preserve his chances of progressing in the Champions League.
He provided two assists, both from corners
Transferred for three million euros, after Gigi Becali agreed to reduce the amount stipulated in the termination clause, the former captain of FCSB impressed from the first match played in the training camp of his new team. Olaru contributed decisively to the Belgian team’s victory, providing two assists following corner kicks.
The performance is all the more remarkable as set pieces were one of the aspects for which the midfielder was often criticized during his time at FCSB, by supporters. But the promising debut gives him a boost of confidence ahead of the new season.

In this summer’s training period, FCSB and Union SG will meet in a friendly match scheduled for July 5. The match will represent Darius Olaru’s first confrontation against the team he played for over six years and with whom he became one of the most important players of the Romanian championship.
