The island is famous for its spectacular beaches, such as Kata and Karon, but also for its nightlife and numerous activities dedicated to tourists. However, its popularity means that, especially in the peak season, the beaches and the main tourist attractions are extremely crowded, according to express.

Thailand also dominates the ranking with the presence of the resorts of Pattaya and Krabi, which occupy the second and third places. Thus, three of the top ten busiest tourist destinations in the world are in the same country.

Greece and Turkey are also represented in the ranking. Heraklion, the main city of the island of Crete, ranks seventh, with 22 tourists for every resident, and the island of Rhodes is in ninth position, with more than 20 tourists per resident.

Turkey’s Muğla province, known for the resorts of Bodrum, Marmaris and Fethiye, ranks fourth.

Among the European destinations affected by the phenomenon of excessive tourism is Venice. The Italian city, visited annually by approximately 30 million people, has 21 tourists for every inhabitant.

A tourist destination in Europe, with superb beaches and low prices, is looking for 2,600 workers: salaries of up to 3,000 euros

To reduce overcrowding, the Venetian authorities have introduced an access fee for visitors who come only for a day, a move that has caused much controversy.

Officials are also considering increasing this fee, in an attempt to discourage visits during peak periods and protect the city’s heritage.
