A 31-year-old woman from Covasna County gave birth to three girls and a boy at the Miercurea-Ciuc County Emergency Hospital. It is the first birth of quadruplets recorded in the history of the medical facility.
Three girls and a boy were born at the Miercurea-Ciuc County Emergency Hospital on July 21, the first birth of quadruplets recorded since the establishment of the medical unit. The mother, a 31-year-old woman from Malnaș-Băi, Covasna county, gave birth by caesarean section in the 26th week of pregnancy, and the four children were later transferred to Brașov, where they receive care in the neonatal intensive care unit.
“With great joy we inform you – with the consent of the parents – that on July 21, 2026, at 11:39, quadruplets were born in our hospital. According to the records of the Department of Neonatology, it is the first time that a birth of quadruplets takes place in our institution!!” hospital representatives announced in a post published on Facebook on Thursday.
The pregnancy was achieved by assisted insemination and was followed by Dr. Hompoth György, primary obstetrician-gynecology physician and head of the Department of Obstetrics-Gynecology.
The four babies, who weigh between 740 and 810 grams, have been named Abigél Kincső, Alíz Nóra, Andrea Csenge and Attila Nimród. Due to prematurity, all of them needed neonatal intensive care and were transferred to the “Dr. IA Sbârcea” Obstetrics-Gynecology Clinical Hospital in Brașov.
“They are currently on ventilator support, their condition is stable. The mother is recovering in our hospital and her condition is good,” stated the representatives of the medical unit.
The babies were transported to the Clinical Obstetrics-Gynecology Hospital “Dr. IA Sbârcea” in Brașov with several means of intervention. Two of the girls were taken by a SMURD helicopter, the little boy was taken by an ambulance of the Harghita County Ambulance Service, and the third girl by an ambulance of the Brașov County Ambulance Service.
At the end of the message, the hospital representatives thanked all the medical teams involved.
“Along with Dr. Hompoth György, Dr. Voicu Camelia and Dr. Holló Tünde, obstetrics-gynecology primary physicians, participated in the intervention, together with the team of the gynecology operating room. In the care of the newborns, the team of the Department of Neonatology made a remarkable effort and showed a high level of professionalism: Dr. Adorján Márta, Dr. Cseh Zsuzsánna, Dr. Sánta Réka, Dr. Sándor Szende, Dr. Szilveszter Dóra Sarolta and the neonatology nurses.
