ChatGPT, the artificial intelligence chatbot developed by OpenAI, is experiencing a major service outage on Saturday. Users around the world have reported that they can’t log into their accounts, can’t access their conversations, or receive error messages. OpenAI confirmed the incident and announced that they are working on fixing it.
According to the first information, the problems started around 1:00 p.m., Romanian time, when users began to report authentication difficulties and the impossibility of accessing conversations.
The disruption is not limited to one region. The most reports came from the United States, several countries in Europe – including the UK, Germany, Italy, Spain, Austria, Greece and Croatia – but also from India, where one of the highest volumes of referrals was recorded. Problems were also reported in Singapore, Malaysia, the Philippines, Indonesia and Australia.
Users report that they cannot log into their accounts, chat history appears empty, chats do not load, and the platform displays errors such as “primaryapi_server_error”, “500 Internal Server Error” or stuck in a loading screen.
On its official service status page, OpenAI confirmed the incident, stating that the platform is “experiencing issues” and recording “a high error rate”.
“We have applied remedial measures and are monitoring the recovery process,” the company said.
According to OpenAI, the outage affects not only ChatGPT, but also OpenAI APIs and the Codex programming platform.
Data published by DownDetector shows that more than 3,000 users reported problems during the day on Saturday. Of the notifications, 79% targeted ChatGPT, 9% the mobile app, and 8% the Codex platform.
At the same time, the expression “ChatGPT not working?” made it to Google Trends amid the large number of users trying to find out if the issues are general.
While OpenAI works to fix the incident, users reacted with humor on social media. Many tongue-in-cheek memes and videos about the global outage appeared on X, Reddit, and TikTok, with many joking that they first checked their internet connection or restarted their devices before realizing the problem was affecting millions of users around the world.
