One hundred Romanian high school teachers will participate, between July and October 2026, in a training program on the use of artificial intelligence in education. Confirmed trainers include Bill Wisser, executive director of the Teaching and Learning Lab at the Harvard Graduate School of Education. The program prioritizes rural and small-town teachers, and participants will need to pass on what they learn in their own schools.
Bill Wisser, Executive Director of the Teaching and Learning Lab at the Harvard Graduate School of Education, is one of the confirmed trainers in the program.
The educational content is coordinated by Miruna Constantin, research director of the AGORA Center and co-founder of I Want to Study in America, a graduate of a master’s program in global education at the Harvard Graduate School of Education.
The program is organized by the AGORA Center for Democracy together with I Want to Study in America.
The 100 selected teachers will participate in several online workshops and a one-day conference in Bucharest.
The training is focused on the use of artificial intelligence in teaching, including lesson design, student assessment and everyday classroom activities.
The program is presented as one dedicated to the responsible use of AI tools, not just familiarizing teachers with various applications.
Priority for rural and small town teachers
The program is addressed to high school teachers from the whole country, but the organizers give priority to those from rural areas and small towns.
The pilot stage runs from July to October 2026 and participation is free.
The program is funded by a FLEX Alumni Community grant, provided by the US Department of State through the American Councils for International Education.
Each teacher must conduct the training in his own school
One of the components of the program is the multiplication of training.
Each of the 100 participating teachers undertakes to support at least one training session in their own school. Thus, the program aims for the information and methods discussed in the workshops to reach other teachers, not only those initially selected.
Organizers say the goal is to build a network of teachers who can support colleagues and students in the responsible use of artificial intelligence.
Program started from the FLEX experience
The program is initiated and coordinated by Antonia Călin, Partnership and Community Manager of the AGORA Center and graduate of the FLEX program.
According to the organizers, his one-year experience in the United States, through FLEX, was the basis of the project.
The pilot phase is scheduled to end in October 2026, after teacher training and implementation and scaling up in schools.
