Thus, Romanians have come to consult the Internet whenever they have a concern and this resource is exploited like a digital library.
Romanians, state champions on the internet
A study carried out by the ATLAS VPN company shows that Romanians spend more than a quarter of the day on the Internet. Specifically, the average is 423 minutes, which is seven hours and three minutes. These figures put us above the world average of six hours and 36 minutes.
A novelty is that the Romanians managed to surpass even the Americans in this chapter. In their case, the average is six hours and 59 minutes.
Romanians spend more time on the Internet than other Europeans. For example, Austria's average is five hours and 22 minutes, and Germany's is five hours and 12 minutes. Denmark is the country with the lowest average, at four hours and 58 minutes.
Even if the situation in Romania seems worrying, there are countries that are much worse in this regard. South Africans are world champions on the internet, spending no less than nine hours and 38 minutes daily in front of the screens, three hours more than the world average. And Brazilians are among the most addicted to the Internet, recording an average of nine hours and 32 minutes. The podium is completed by the Filipinos, with an average of nine hours and 14 minutes.
How harmful is this habit
Experts say that too much technology can be harmful at some point.
“Studies show that almost three-quarters of children and adolescents have a smartphone and more than half say they have a problem related to the type of screen time. Clearly, heavy use takes its toll at some point. Here we are talking about the fact that we do not realize how much time we spend and how harmful this technology is. I think it's good to use an application that monitors the time spent in front of the phones because, often, we don't realize how much time we spend on this“, stated Dr. Ovidiu Alexinschi, primary psychiatrist, coordinator of the NoAddict programs.
