A Romanian who went to Canada explains how much money you need every month to live decently. “It is no longer worth leaving Romania”

A Romanian settled in Canada for six years spoke in a post on a social network about the huge monthly expenses he has to have a decent living and warns our compatriots to think carefully before making the decision to settle in this country.

Our compatriot settled in the city of Calgary in Canada first talked about the rent he pays monthly, which in recent years has practically doubled. Thus, for a family with two or three children, the monthly rent is between 2,500 and 3,000 dollars.

“Until the pandemic, rents were quite cheap, you could afford to rent a house for about 1,500-1,700, maximum 2,000 dollars. Now to rent a house you need between 2,500 and 3,000 dollars. It is very difficult to find housing. The deposit must also be taken into account, which costs as much as one month's rent and two”, explained the Romanian.

Added to all this are the bills for electricity, gas and the garbage tax, which can vary between 400 and 700 dollars per month, but also the costs of gasoline or diesel fuel, which can reach between 500 and 1,000 dollars per month, depending on the distances traveled monthly.

Our compatriot says that he needs a car because in the city where he lives, public transport is not very accessible and he cannot rely on it to get to work.

How much does the food cost him?

The cost of food is not negligible either. Our compatriot spends between 1,800 and 2,500 dollars every month on food.

“Food for a family with two or three children costs you somewhere between 1,800 and 2,500 dollars a month. Okay, there are people who are more thoughtful and spend $100-$200 less than the rest. But, anyway, without 2,000-2,500 dollars you can't escape”, he wants to score the Romanian.

He says that the costs of car insurance must also be taken into account, as well as those related to children's schooling. All in all, anyone living in Canada needs a substantial income to meet their extremely high monthly expenses.

“Think twice or thrice before you go. It is no longer worth leaving Romania. It was worth it in the 90s”, but not now. If you still want to move, think twice. There are a lot of charlatans and people talking about Canada. People who want to make money behind your back and lie to you. I know what it means to live in Canada and the cost of living is very expensive. To live a normal, decent life in Canada you need 6,000-7,000 dollars“, is the warning of our compatriot.
