Rising trend for respiratory infections last week. A hundred people have died from the flu so far

Last week, the incidence of respiratory infections had an increasing trend, according to INSP data. One death from the influenza virus was also reported.

Between March 11 and 17, the incidence of respiratory infections had an increasing trend compared to the previous week, but was below the average level calculated for the last seasons, the National Institute of Public Health informed, according to Agerpres.

At the same time, a confirmed death with influenza virus was registered during this period.

86,097 cases of respiratory infections (clinical flu, IACRS and pneumonia) were reported, registering 13.9% fewer cases compared to the same week of the previous season (99,969) and 13.1% more cases compared to the previous week (76,120), between March 11 and 17. The minus variation compared to the calculated average of 94,546 cases from the last seasons (2016 – 2023, excluding pandemic seasons) was 8.9%, according to INSP data.

Also, this week 825 cases of clinical flu were registered nationally, compared to 2,126 cases in the same week of the previous season and with 953 registered in the previous week, there is still a decrease in flu activity.

The most cases of clinical flu were reported in Bucharest (218) and in the counties of Cluj (63), Prahova (60) and Brasov (53). In the rest of the counties, the number of cases was less than 50.

Between March 11 and 17, 41 cases of influenza were confirmed by the laboratory (three with AH1 influenza virus, four with AH3 influenza virus, 23 with non-subtyped A virus and 11 with B virus).

So far this season, 2,185 laboratory-confirmed cases of influenza have been reported, of which: 364 cases with influenza AH1 virus, 331 cases with influenza AH3 virus, 63 cases with influenza B virus, 1,421 cases with non-subtyped influenza A virus, six cases with influenza virus AH1 and AH3, 75 coinfections of influenza virus with SARS-CoV-2, 29 coinfections of influenza virus with RSV, two coinfections of influenza virus with SARS-CoV-2 and RSV.

From October 2, 2023 until March 17, 2024, 100 confirmed deaths from influenza virus were reported.

Until March 17, a number of 1,077,555 flu-vaccinated people were registered in the National Electronic Register of Vaccinations (RENV), of which 1,052,561 were from the population groups benefiting from settlement under the compensated regime.
