Kevin Costner will world premiere, out of competition, at the 77th edition of the Cannes Film Festival (May 14-25) the first episode of “Horizon: An American Saga”, a story about the conquest of the West American, the organizers announced on Monday, informs AFP.

“'Horizon, An American Saga' is a story that began 35 years ago, and I can think of no better place than the Cannes Film Festival to reveal to the world the result of such a wonderful adventure.”commented the well-known actor and director, quoted in the press release of the organizers, writes Agerpres.

“Horizon: An American Saga” is described by festival organizers as “an ambitious project about the cost of wars and violence in building and expanding the United States“.

Starring Kevin Costner, Sienna Miller, Sam Worthington and Jena Malone, the project will comprise four episodes that will be released over several months.

The 69-year-old actor and director already flirted with the western genre in the classic “Dancing with Wolves” (“Dancing with Wolves”, 1990), in which he played a Civil War soldier close to a Sioux tribe. The film was awarded with seven Oscars, including the one for the best film.

The official selection of this 77th edition of the Cannes Film Festival (south of France), chaired by Greta Gerwig, director of the movie “Barbie”, is to be announced on Thursday.
