Music is an essential element in many people's lives. Thus, there are people who sit with headphones in their ears for hours, listening to their favorite hits. Often times, without realizing it, what we listen to can radically change our mood.

Even if most of the time it seems that people choose music according to the experiences they have, specialists claim that things can be the other way around.
How does music affect mood?
Nowadays, the greatest hits are just a finger press away, and music has become something that many people cannot live without. With the help of headphones and a phone, anyone can listen to their favorite songs for hours, regardless of the chosen music genre. Many times, say psychologists, we choose what we listen to according to the feelings we have at the time.
“Without a doubt, music helps us a lot. It helps us to consume our anger, frustration but also to experience the great joys of life. Many people tend to listen to sadder songs when they are going through a difficult time. It may seem wrong, you may think that sad music sinks you deeper into sadness. In reality, things are not quite like that. Music, if it is identified with the state of mind we have, helps us consume the anger much faster, accelerates the healing process. It is the same with happiness. Music helps us experience joy at its highest“, said Andreea Coman, clinical psychologist.
Can music generate aggressive behavior?
In recent years, many new genres of music have appeared on the market, which, in most cases, contain vulgar and violent lyrics. Psychologists claim that these songs have the ability to change the mood of an unformed teenager for the worse, who can be easily influenced by what they listen to.
“Every song comes with a message. It is important that the message is positive, not conveying something bad. At this moment, more and more genres appear on the music market that promote the idea of violence, promote fictitious values. Unfortunately, young people, especially teenagers, identify with these musical genres and with the artists who perform those songs. Music comes as a tip. It's like when someone repeats a thing, an idea to you a lot. At some point, you come to listen and even believe what you are told. Thus, if young people listen to music with an aggressive message, where only money, crime and similar things are talked about, there is a risk that they will develop aggressive behavior. Basically, young people can find their idols in these performers, who end up influencing behavior“, added the psychologist from Iași.
