A new anti-pollution march in the town of Corbeanca. “The suffocating smell was felt several evenings”

More than a week after the organization of the first “March for Clean Air, Forests, Health and Future”, the illegal burning of waste continued in the localities around Bucharest. People are expected at a new demonstration on Saturday, April 6, in Corbeanca.

On March 23, hundreds of people from Corbeanca (Ilfov) and other localities in the county participated in an anti-pollution march, being dissatisfied with the air quality, affected by the illegal burning of waste. In an action that took place over three kilometers and lasted three hours, the participants chanted “We want clean air”, “No pollution”, “Forests for people”, “We want the Green Belt”, “No illegal burning” or “Ilfov clean”.

Because there were no changes for the better, the Activ Corbeanca Association with the support of the Civic Platform Together for the Green Belt is organizing a second march on Saturday, April 6, 2024, from 11:00 a.m., starting from Corbeanca Park. The national, county and local authorities are asked to take immediate measures to improve air quality and create the Bucharest – Ilfov Green Belt.

Illegal burning of waste continued in the localities around Bucharest. The monitoring sensors reddened again to the alarming extreme and the suffocating smell was felt several evenings in a row“, it is stated in the press release sent by the organizers of the event.

The communities of Ilfov and Bucharest, citizens of all ages, from young to old, are invited to participate in the march. Also, parents with children will be able to participate in a workshop on environmental and pollution topics.

Pollution has no regard for administrative borders or who or what we each are. Pollution does not take into account where Ilfovul ends and Bucharest begins. She kills real and indiscriminately. Exceptional circumstances, such as we now find ourselves in, call for exceptional actions and measures, call for exceptional vision and exceptional boldness. And exceptional ethics. And all this can only be done animated by an exceptional love. I gratefully invite you to be together on April 6 at the March for Clean Air, Forests, Health and the Future”, stated Alex Găvan, founder of the Civic Platform Together for the Green Belt.

Through an online petition that has already collected over 11,700 signatures, the Civic Platform Together for the Green Belt invites citizens to join in asking political and executive decision-makers for concrete measures for Clean Air, Health and the Future.

The Green Belt of Bucharest, close to reality

Alex Găvan, one of the most appreciated Romanian climbers, is also the initiator of a project aimed at protecting the entire forest belt of Ilfov and around Bucharest. Before the last step, the final vote in the plenary session of the Chamber of Deputies, the decision-making forum, the project is now under debate in the last committee, that for “agriculture and forestry, food industry and specific services”.

So far, at previous committees in the Chamber of Deputies, the Bucharest-Ilfov Green Belt project has achieved unanimity each time.

More than 150 non-governmental organizations, civic groups and public persons, united in a NON-POLITICAL approach under the umbrella of the Civic Platform Together for the Green Belt and with the support of the Presidential Administration, came to meet politicians and authorities with the Memorandum for Clean Air, Health and Future.
