A new film inspired by the legend of Dracula has appeared

Created by Bram Stoker at the end of the 19th century, the legend of Dracula continues to enjoy huge interest. Beyond the tourist aspect, which we see at Bran Castle, the legend of Dracula is also carried forward through numerous films and games.

The newest film inspired by the legend of Dracula is called “Abigail” and was released in April. The film is a remake of the production “Dracula's Daughter”, which Universal Classic Monsters released in 1936. In the role of Dracula's daughter we can see Alisha Weir, who takes on the role of a ballerina from New York City. She is kidnapped by 6 people who are going to share no less than 50 million dollars if they keep her captive for 24 hours. However, nothing goes according to the original plan.

The film is directed by Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett, and the budget is estimated at 28 million dollars. At the same time, we can see the affinity of those at Universal for the legend of Dracula, after last year they released two productions inspired by it: “The Last Voyage of the Demeter” and “Renfield”.

However, the first reviews of the movie “Abigail” were not very good. Journalists at The Guardian gave it 2 stars (out of 5) and describe it as a light film that doesn't push you too hard, with some funny moments. As for opening weekend earnings, they totaled $15.2 million, a decent amount for a horror film. It grossed well in the US, Mexico, UK, Ireland, Spain and Brazil.

Another film inspired by the legend of Dracula will be released this year

In 2024, fans of Count Dracula will have another opportunity to watch a film inspired by this legend. On December 25, the film “Nosferatu” will be released, the cast of which includes Bill Skarsgard, Nicholas Hoult and Lily-Rose Depp. Filming took place in Prague, so we expect a scenario full of mystery, but also with many scary moments.

Dracula is not only a frequently encountered character in movies, but also in games. Given the way the character was built and his features, it's no surprise that game developers have been giving him a lot of attention in recent years. And among the most famous video games about the famous count we can mention “Dracula Unleashed”, “Nosferatu the Vampyre”, “Van Helsing” and “Dracula 5: The Blood Legacy”. In addition, there are also quite a few pecan games inspired by the legend of Dracula. Some even had sequels, as is the case with “Million Dracula” from Red Rake. Other popular titles are “Dracula” (Stake Logic), “Universal Monsters Dracula” (Netent), “Brides of Dracula Hold & Win” (iSoftBet) and “Guises of Dracula” (Platipus).

We can thus see how this character often associated with Romania enjoys considerable interest worldwide. This is not surprising, since Bran Castle is visited annually by almost 1 million tourists, many of them from abroad. It's been over 125 years since Dracula was created, and the count remains a fictional character that arouses people's interest.

In fact, he is the second most popular fictional character in Europe, after the detective Sherlock Holmes. So, the emergence of numerous films and games is somehow understandable, since the public interest is so high, and the scenario can be developed in many directions. And Romania can take advantage of the character's popularity by boosting tourism in areas associated with Dracula.
