AEP announces the date of appointing the presidents of the polling stations for the December 7 elections

The Permanent Electoral Authority (AEP) announced on Monday that, on November 19, the presidents of the electoral offices of the polling stations in the country and their deputies will be appointed for the partial local elections on December 7.

According to AEP, the presidents of the electoral offices of the polling stations and their deputies are appointed in a public meeting, announced 24 hours in advance, by means of a computerized draw, organized at the county level or of the Bucharest municipality.

“The appointment of the presidents of the electoral offices of the polling stations in the country and their deputies is made no later than five days before the voting date, by position, from among the persons registered in the Corps of electoral experts, with domicile or residence in the respective county, based on the criterion of the proximity of the domicile or residence to the headquarters of the voting station, as well as on the basis of the criterion of completed studies.

Priority is given to graduates of undergraduate studies in the field of legal sciences and then to graduates of undergraduate studies”, states AEP.

The institution also announced that the results of the computerized lottery are recorded in minutes that are made public by displaying on the AEP website, respectively at the headquarters of the constituency electoral offices or of the county electoral offices, as the case may be, as well as their websites.

“The schedule and locations at which the public meetings will be held to appoint the presidents of the electoral offices of the polling stations and their deputies in the partial local elections of December 7, 2025 can be consulted in the Annex (.pdf format).

The body of electoral experts is “the permanent record of the persons who can become presidents of the electoral offices of the polling stations or their deputies, established, managed and updated by the Permanent Electoral Authority”, according to Law no. 208/2015 regarding the election of the Senate and the Chamber of Deputies, as well as for the organization and operation of the Permanent Electoral Authority, with subsequent amendments and additions”, conclude the AEP.

Shorter election campaign for the December 7 elections

Partial local elections will be held in Bucharest for the election of the general mayor, in Buzău county for the election of the president of the County Council, as well as in 12 other localities in the country, and the electoral campaign will have a shorter duration.

This is only 15 days, compared to the 30 days provided for local elections held on time.

Thus, the electoral campaign will start on November 22 and end on December 6, at 7:00 a.m. After this term, electoral propaganda of any kind is prohibited.

On November 11, the period for submitting candidacies for the position of mayor in the following constituencies began: Remetea commune, Bihor county; Mihai Eminescu commune, Botoșani county; Marga commune, Caraș-Severin county; Dobromir commune, Constanța county; Lumina commune, Constanța county; Găesti city, Dâmbovița county; Sopot commune, Dolj county; Valea Ciorii commune, Ialomița county; Vânători commune, Iasi county; Poienile de sub Munte commune, Maramureș county; Șieu commune, Maramureș county; Cârța commune, Sibiu county.

On November 12, the period for submitting candidacies for the position of president of the Buzău County Council and for the position of general mayor of Bucharest began.

In both cases, the deadline for submitting applications is November 17.

November 11 – The period for submitting candidacies for the position of mayor in all 12 localities in the country begins.

November 12 – The period for submitting candidacies for the position of general mayor of the Capital and the position of president of the Buzău County Council begins.

December 8 – Counting the votes, concluding the minutes and drawing up the files with the voting results. Delivery to the constituency electoral office of the files containing the voting results in the polling station. Applications can also be made for the annulment of elections in a constituency.
