The announcement was made on Wednesday, March 11, during the Gala Doctorului Digital 2026 event, organized at the MINA Museum. The minister spoke about the investments made in recent years for the digitalization of the medical system and about the projects currently being implemented.

“Digital medicine in Romania has already started. With the programs through PNRR, however, massive investments have been made in the digital area in recent years. In a few months, the new digital platform in the field of health will be available that will connect both providers and patients. We are talking about an interactive platform, where the patient will be able to see – I could say in an apotheotical end – after 36 years, the electronic file, they will be able to realize appointments”, said Alexandru Rogobete.

The minister also offered some examples of medical units in Romania where digitization is already implemented in the current activity. Among them are the Timișoara County Hospital, where the Anesthesia and Intensive Care clinic has been operating for about a year and a half without paper documents, as well as the “Marie Curie” Hospital and the Iași Children’s Hospital.

In the opinion of Alexandru Rogobete, the digitization of the medical system does not mean only the introduction of computer applications, but a broad transformation of the way in which health services are organized and managed.

“When we talk about digitization in health, we are rather talking about a digital transformation, because the transformation of medical activity into a digital format is a process that cannot be done overnight, it needs infrastructure and that is what we tried to ensure through the programs of the PNRR”, stated the Minister of Health.

Alexandru Rogobete also emphasized that the development of digital medicine also requires the adaptation of medical practices to new technologies, including in terms of data security and the protection of patient information, and he declared himself optimistic about the pace of modernization of the Romanian medical system in the coming years.

“I am confident that in the next period, i.e. the next 2-3 years, the healthcare system in Romania will be transformed as much as possible in the digital area. Also, Romania is currently ready to align with the European data space in the medical area and we will start the procedures for connection, so that Romanians have access to medical data wherever they are in Europe”. concluded Alexandru Rogobete.
