On the agenda is the draft law to complete art. 1 of the Hunting and Hunting Fund Protection Law no. 407/2006, as well as for the modification and completion of GEO no. 81/2021 regarding the approval of immediate intervention methods to prevent and combat brown bear attacks on people and their property, as well as for the modification and completion of some normative acts, according to Agerpres.

The draft law aims to regulate the completion of Law no. 407/2006, as well as the amendment and completion of Government Emergency Ordinance no. 81/2021.

The legislative interventions are aimed at preventing attacks on the human population and the damage caused by bear attacks, by approving the harvesting for the years 2024 and 2025 of a number of 426 specimens of brown bears, which represent the level of prevention at the national level, and a number of 55 brown bear specimens, which represent the level of intervention at the national level.

Prime Minister Marcel Ciolacu announced that PSD MPs will request an extraordinary session of the Parliament to debate and adopt a legislative initiative targeting new measures to manage the bear population.

19-year-old girl, killed by a bear

A 19-year-old woman was killed by a bear the other day on the Jepii Mici route, from Bucegi.

It was the young woman’s boyfriend who first called 112, at 3:45 p.m., to announce that they were on the Little Jepii route and that a bear was on their trail.

“She was terrified … you can tell, she was screaming, ‘The bear is getting closer and closer!’“, added Dan Banu.

Everything happened live, the 112 dispatcher was on the phone and the young man was shouting that they were being attacked by a bear and that he had taken the girl. It was something terrible! He told us that the bear grabbed the girl by the leg and was dragging her after him, and at one point he didn’t see what he did to her. From the path, the bear dragged her and threw her 120 meters into the valley floor”revealed the boss Salvamont Prahova.
