The Minister of Health, Alexandru Rafila, emphasized that parents have the duty to protect their children through vaccinations, which represent the most effective prevention programs. This message comes after the registration of 200 cases of measles in Arad county during the last week. Nationally, nearly 800 new cases were reported in the first week of April.

At a medical conference held on Friday, Alexandru Rafila highlighted that vaccination programs have a significant impact in reducing cases of illness and deaths, especially among children.
“Now we have measles epidemic. I was just reading that in the last week there were 200 cases of measles in Arad County, more than all the cases of measles they had in recent years cumulatively. Why? Because there are a lot of unvaccinated children (…). I hope that people understand that protecting your child by vaccination, with the usual – if you want – traditional vaccines (…) is a degree of responsibility towards your own child. I think this should be very clear. The safety of medicines, the safety of vaccines is the main concern not only of the manufacturers, but also of the regulatory agencies, so there is no question that the vaccines that are made available to the population are unsafe“, said Minister Rafila, according to Agerpres.
In the last week alone, 790 cases of measles were registered in our country, according to INSP. Since the beginning of the reporting period, there have been 12 deaths due to measles.
The Minister of Health drew attention to the fact that a healthy lifestyle also means an active life from a professional and social point of view.
“This does not mean that we have to discuss – I know – the extension of the age at which people retire, but the involvement in active life is what maintains a healthy life. (…) We need people who can serve, with the knowledge they have, with the skills they have, the various sectors of activity“, added Minister Rafila.
And the presidential advisor Diana-Loreta Păun noted that adopting a healthy lifestyle and avoiding “behavioral risk factors” can contribute in the long term to improving the health of the population.
Diana-Loreta Păun highlighted the underfunding, the lack of infrastructure and staff in Romanian hospitals, but she also noted the technological progress recorded in the health system.
