The Chinese Technology Company Alibaba launched a new version of its QWEN 2.5 artificial intelligence model on Wednesday, which has claimed to outperform Deepseek-V3.

The moment of the launch of Qwen 2.5-Max is an unusual one, being the first day of the Lunar New Year, when most of the Chinese are free from work and with their families. This could indicate the pressure that the bright ascension of the Chinese startup Deepseek has put not only on the overseas rivals, but also on its internal competition, reports Reuters.
“Qwen 2.5-Max surpasses the performances … almost everywhere GPT-4o, Deepseek-V3 and Llama-3.1-405b”the Cloud unit of Alibaba said in an ad posted on its official Wechat account, referring to the most advanced models of open-source artificial intelligence of Openai and Meta.
The launch of January 10 of the artificial intelligence assistant of Deepseek, powered by the Deepseek-V3 model, as well as the launch of January 20 of its R1 model, shook Silicon Valley and caused the technological actions.
But the success of Deepseek has also led to a fight between his internal competitors to update their own models. Just two days after the launch of Deepseek-R1, the owner of Tiktok, Bytedance, launched an update of his emblematic model, who claimed that he has overcome Openai O1 supported by Microsoft in Aime, a reference test that measures how well I understand AI models and respond to complex instructions.
Deepseek and internal competition
The predecessor of the V3 of Deepseek, Deepseek-V2, triggered a war in China’s prices after being launched in May last year.
The fact that Deepseek-V2 was open-source and cheaply unprecedented, determined the Cloud unit of Alibaba to announce price reductions of up to 97% for a series of models.
Other Chinese technology companies have followed the example, including Baidu opens a new tab, which launched the first Chatgpt equivalent in China in March 2023, and the most valuable Internet company in the country.
Liang Wenfeng, founder of Deepseek, said in an interview with Chinese Waves in July that Startup “he does not care a straw” of the wars of prices and that the achievement of AGA (general artificial intelligence) is its main objective.
Openai defines AGI as autonomous systems that go beyond people in the most valuable economic tasks.
While the big Chinese technology companies, such as Alibaba, have hundreds of thousands of employees, Deepseek works as a research laboratory, with staff consisting mainly of young graduates and doctoral students from Chinese universities.
