Alina Gorghiu, deputy and president of PNL Argeș, demanded the resignation of prefect Ioana Făcăleață, guilty in her opinion of the drinking water crisis in Curtea de Argeș.
The former Minister of Justice, PNL deputy Alina Gorghiu, on Sunday demanded the resignation of the prefect of Argeș County, Ioana Făcăleață, for “unmatchable administrative incompetence“.
Gorghiu accuses her of “six months of inactivity” in an official case reported regarding illegal discharges in the commune of Corbeni (close to Curtea de Argeș) and the risk of water contamination, which led to the drinking water crisis, a situation faced by about 50,000 people in Curtea de Argeș.
“The statements made in the mass media on February 13, 2026 by the prefect of Argeș county, Ioana Făcăleață, are in direct contradiction with the existing official documents. The prefect stated: “We have suspicions, more precisely that illegal discharges are being made on the riverbed and we have asked absolutely all institutions to have zero tolerance for this phenomenon. We have asked the competent institutions to check if illegal discharges are made by such companies, as well as individuals to ensure that we do not have an additional contamination of the water from the river, which reaches the treatment plant.” It’s not about suspicions. It is about an official notification sent to the Government of Romania on July 31, 2025, regarding exactly these spills and the risk of water contamination”, according to a press release by the president of PNL Argeș, Alina Gorghiu.
Next, the Argeș PNL leader made public the official document sent to the Argeș Prefecture.
“Official document sent to Argeș Prefecture
On August 5, 2025, the General Secretariat of the Government – Public Relations Directorate issued address no. 15D/11566/05.08.2025, by which the memorandum regarding the situation in Corbeni commune was sent “for information and analysis to the INSTITUTION OF THE PREFECT – ARGEȘ COUNTY”.
Therefore, the Institution of the Argeș Prefect, led by Ioana Făcăleață, was officially informed, in writing, as early as August 2025, regarding:
• unfinished sewerage works;
• discharge of manure into the stream and the river bed;
• the real risk of contamination of the water used by the population.
6 months have passed in which the prefecture has done nothing.
During this period, manure continued to reach the water table and the water course.
Currently, in the samples taken by the Argeș Public Health Directorate, the existence of bacteria in the water was found. In the Curtea de Argeș area, the water was declared undrinkable, the bacteriological contamination being confirmed”the document also states.
Gorghiu says that under these conditions, the statement of February 13, 2026 about “suspicions” is late and administratively unjustified.
“What happened between August 5, 2025 and February 13, 2026?
• What checks did the prefecture order?
• What concrete measures have been taken?
• Why was the population not warned?
• Why was there no intervention to stop the spills?
If there have been measures, they must be made public immediately.
If they didn’t exist, we’re talking about six months of passivity in a problem directly related to public health.
You can’t invoke “zero tolerance” after half a year of silence.
You cannot talk about “suspicions” when you have been officially informed by the Government.
You can only react after the bacteria appear in the DSP samples and the water becomes undrinkable.
For this one serious administrative delay and for the faulty management of a situation with a major impact on the health of the population, we request the resignation of the prefect of Argeș County, Ioana Făcăleață”the PNL leader also announces.
The problems at Curtea de Argeș have been going on for four months, due to the works carried out at the Vidraru Dam. The director of DSP Argeș, Sorina Honțaru, stated that following the analyzes carried out, serious irregularities were discovered.
“The Pertigens bacterium was identified in 3 samples out of the 5 collected on that date. These samples were collected at two schools and in the central square in Curtea de Argeș. (…) We will collect samples again and will inform you. It is possible that the water will still be undrinkable because we also have physicochemical changes. We have large amounts of iron, aluminum, manganese and residual chlorine”according to DSP director.
According to DSP representatives, in addition to the presence of bacteria, the water also shows significant physico-chemical changes, which raises questions about the safety of its use even for washing.
It is not the first request for resignation that Alina Gorghiu makes in the case of prefect Făcăleață. At the beginning of the year, the Argeş PNL deputy requested the Argeş Prefecture to make public the documents confirming that the prefect Ioana Făcăleaţă was at the Emergency Reception Unit (UPU) of the Pitesti County Hospital for control purposes, not for medical consultation, after she was accused of jumping “over the line”.
