“CIt is with deep regret that we, his family, announce the passing of the man and artist, David Lynch. We would appreciate some privacy at this time. There is a great void in the world now that he is no longer with us. But, as he used to say, «Keep your eye on the donut and not the hole». It’s a beautiful day with golden sun and blue skies all the way“, his family wrote.

The director, author of ten feature films released between 1977 and 2006, has captivated many admirers fascinated by the disturbing strangeness of his films.

David Lynch was born on January 20, 1946, in Missoula (Montana) and was a film director, screenwriter and producer, visual artist and composer. Among his best known works are “Eraserhead” (1977), “The Elephant Man” (1980), “Blue Velvet” (1986), “Wild at Heart” (1990), “Twin Peaks” (1992) and “Mulholland Drive” (2001).

David Lynch received four Oscar nominations and as many Golden Globe nominations. In 2019, he received an honorary Oscar for his entire filmography.

In 1991, he received the Franklin J. Schaffner trophy from the American Film Institute, and for “Wild at Heart”, the Palme d’Or trophy.

Also at Cannes, he received the award for directing, in 2001, for “Mulholland Drive”.

David Lynch was also awarded by the Academy of Cinematographic Art and Technique with two César awards for “best foreign film”, in 1982 and 2002, for “The Elephant Man” and “Mulholland Drive”.

In 1990, David Lynch created “Twin Peaks”, a legendary series that revolutionized the genre and turned millions of viewers into detectives haunted by the mysteries it revealed over two seasons. A quarter of a century later, he reproduced the miracle with “Twin Peaks: The Return” (2017), with 18 episodes that resume the intrigue surrounding the disappearance of agent Dale Cooper.
