Hysteria among parents at a general school in Bucharest. People claim that there is an invasion of bedbugs in the educational institution, and many refuse to send their children to classes. Everything happened after the students allegedly found some insects in the classrooms. Moreover, the other day two children arrived at the medical office with pinches on their bodies.
“We didn’t find anything, we didn’t see anything, neither did the DSP confirm the presence of any insects. Even so, we called a specialized company and did disinsectionGabriela Năstase, the secretary of the education unit, told Adevărul.
The story of the bedbugs that would have invaded General School no. 20 of sector 3 of the Capital, started last week, Friday. “Some children found some insects. They photographed them, showed them to their parents, and they mistook them for bed bugs. People became alarmed, started chatting on the whatsapp group, and then sent the images to the school management asking for action.”continues Gabriela Năstase. Management decided to call in an extermination company. “I checked every classroom but found nothing. Not a single bug, to speak of a bed bug infestation. However, at the management level, the decision was made to carry out, preventively, a disinsection on the weekend”, says the secretary. “The children went back to school on Monday and we thought the parents’ problem was solved. But a few days ago, two children arrived at the school’s medical office with a few pinches. The nurse said it would most likely be from the mosquitoes.” Gabriela Năstase also specified.

“Many parents kept their children at home”
The incident panicked the parents even more. “They continued with the phone calls and the suspicions that there was an invasion of bed bugs. A general panic has been created which has grown unjustifiably. Many refused to send their children to school. Of fear. But I’m telling you it’s an unfounded fear, because there are no bed bugs in our school. The people from the DSP who came to control said it, the employees of the disinsection company said it, the people from the town hall also came and checked”, the school representative also told us. The secretary of the educational unit explained that the school was recently renovated: “Where do bedbugs come from? I renovated this summer while on vacation. Everything is changed and new. Clean. We changed the parquet, the furniture, the doors, we whitewashed the walls. We don’t have old or damaged things. Children learn in perfect hygienic conditions”.
I also spoke with the representatives of the School Inspectorate of the Municipality of Bucharest, who confirmed the information sent by the management of school 20: “This is not about an invasion. From the information we have at the moment, indeed, two disinsection procedures were carried out at the level of the educational unit with a preventive purpose. The children allegedly found a beetle, which was not confirmed to be a bed bug. It was more of a parental hysteria. People got alarmed on whatsapp groups and the school took preventive action accordingly. Today I sent there representatives of the school inspectorate, DSP and the town hall. They haven’t identified a single bug foot so far,” said the school inspector Ștefan Elena.
