The degree of difficulty of the subjects from the baccalaureate is a lower one. After the autumn session 2025, the teachers talk about “trivial” and “false-positive” results, even a grievable maneuver to hide their incompetence. In this context, the Education Expert Marian Staș proposes, without money, the complete removal of the maturity exam, whom a relic and a background form considers.

The passing note should not be a problem at the autumn session of the baccalaureate, so long students know how to write and read, says a history professor. In Romanian, the topics were also listed as “generous”.
In the full wave of criticisms regarding the extremely small difficulty of the topics at the autumn session of the 2025 Baccalaureate, the education expert Marian Staș states that the problem is not new, but part of a “Malonest game” practiced for years.
Historical, false-positive results. “A grim maneuver”
Corneliu Riegler, a history professor at the Bilingual National College “George Coșbuc” in Bucharest, commented, exclusively for Adevărul, the degree of difficulty of the subjects from the compulsory profile test:
“If I know how to write, they will take a passing note without any problem. With a minimum conscientiousness, it could be easily taken over 9.50.”
He brought a harsh criticism to the Ministry of Education, stating that the degree of difficulty of the subjects was intentionally low, in order to achieve “false-positive” results.
“In 36 years since I was teaching, I have not seen such light topics! In the other years, in history, the topics in the second session had the same degree of difficulty as in the first. Now, it is clear that the degree of difficulty has been intentionally low (…) It is a maneuver, because the ministry wants to hide it.
Caragiale, a “ticket” to notes over 7
At the Romanian language and literature test, the dominant perception among the teachers was that the topics were not only accessible, but “generous” in the true sense of the word.
Professor Ruxandra Achim, from the National College “Il Caragiale” in Bucharest, explained that the choice of a text signed by Caragiale for subject III (essay) could significantly facilitate the students’ success rate:
“I would consider that they are really generous. As for the third subject, the one aimed at drafting the essay, a text signed by Caragiale is much more accessible than the poetic texts, from the perspective of high school students.”
According to her, all the requirements were formulated clearly, without traps or ambiguities, emphasizing the attention and focus of the students:
“We are talking, first of all about attention. AssumnEm that a high school student has sufficiently practiced attention to have no problems in identifying meanings of words, reasons, as they are requested in requirements ”, supports the teacher.
An essential element noted by the teacher is the huge weight of the first topic: 50 points, to which 10 points are added ex officio. A start that guarantees the minimum note for promotion.
“The passing note will certainly be taken. I believe, rather, that notes will be taken from 7 upwards, without great efforts,” added Ruxandra Achim.
“There is nothing new under the sun”
Education expert, Marian Stas emphasizes that the problem of the baccalaureate is not a novelty in this session, but the result of constant degradation of the standards.
“I will play the role of the devil’s lawyer in all the same story. I find it surprising that, just now, the teachers said that the topics are easy, which has been happening for several years ”he says, for the truth.
In his opinion, the exam no longer tests solid knowledge of history or Romanian language, but only minimal skills of understanding the text:
“The first and II subjects are, in fact, recognition and understanding of text. There are many voices, including me, who analyzed this story and said that only subject III assumes to know something Romanian and history, a subject that has only three points,” he says, which is also supported by teachers.
In the context in which the baccalaureate, as currently works, maintains an approach that favors the easy promotion, the surprise for Marian Staș does not represent the content of the topics, but from the moment when the public opinion or teachers decide to consider it an unusual event.
“If we look at all the topics of the last 10 years, we find that the Malonest game of those who have proposed them is a long and continuous-shaped race. They know very well that in pre -university education, the quality of education is very weak and then, they give some topics like this, with most of the text recognition items, so that the world can take notes.
There’s nothing new under the sun in this story. (…) Why did I say that I play the devil’s lawyer’s role? I cannot help but do a connection with the context we are in, an uncomfortable one for education and important transformations. The system is shaken by everything that happens, and now it is binding to the baccalaureate.
The system, represented by the teachers who make topics, by the commissions that validate them, delegitimize the quality of education. No one else. It is not a thing that characterizes the mandate of the new government“added Stas.
The contrast between real and human
Stas also highlights a discrepancy between the way in which the topics in Romanian and history and those from mathematics are designed:
“The peak, the topics in mathematics from Bac are much more honest. It is correct for all the 12th grade Romanian to whom I want to test, on average, how much mathematics knows. A child who learns honestly should not need meditations to take note 6.”
Most candidates who have to support mandatory test are graduates of technological high schools. Even the subject they had to solve did not have a special degree of difficulty, but they could pose problems to those students at the limit, who strictly targeted the minimum note. What could be the verdict for the candidates?
“With this variant, 9, it was harder to take 10, but also 5 ”, noted the mathematics teacher Titu Vîrban, for the truth.
Baccalaureate exam, a relic of the educational system
Even so, Stas’s criticism extends to the entire structure of the exam:
“The baccalaureate exam, in itself, as it is now, for years I repeat, is struck by nullity. It is badly made from head to toe. It is a bureaucracy, a tick point, a bottomless form and industry made money from meditations. It is a relic and a fossil from what the old system means, and it is necessary to do a new thing,”
He emphasizes, once again, the fact that the problems do not belong to one government or another, but to the way the baccalaureate was built and maintained by the educational system.
Radical solution: Bac to museum
As a remedy, Marian Staș proposes the complete elimination of the baccalaureate:
“The solution is the BAC at the museum! Did you graduate 12 classes? Yes. Did you stay correct? No. Did you repeat a year? No then go with God before and make your life. You do not need such a paper that has no value anyway.”
According to the expert, universities should take over and take the role of certification of knowledge, through their own admission exams, and the baccalaureate exam, completely removed from the public system.
“I remove this piece (the baccalaureate), because it has no value. It is a machine to make money that has no relevance to the book as many children in fact. They learn mechanically, they give money and, in the end, I do not stay with anything,” he thinks.
Stas also adds a criticism regarding the assessment of digital and linguistic skills, which they consider useless:
“The skills, and I find it a pig.
The final conclusion? The educational system must be rebuilt, and the turning point in which it is to lead to a real transformation, adapted to the requirements of the present.
“The BAC is an atavism that has nothing to do in society. I hope that all this disorder now will blow the system and place it for the 21st century. At this moment, it is struck by nullity,” concludes Marian Stas.
When we find out the results of the autumn session
The autumn session of the 2025 baccalaureate exam started on August 4, with the competences (linguistic and digital), and continued between August 11 and 14 with the written tests. The initial results are displayed on August 18, the appeals are deposited between 18 and 20 August, and the final results are scheduled on August 26.
The number of inscribes, about 30,200, is the smallest in the last 21 years. The profile of the candidates is predominantly made up of graduates of previous promotions or students, who have failed one or more tests in the summer session.
