Arsenal beat Porto on penalties to reach Champions League quarter-finals

English side Arsenal qualified for the quarter-finals of the Champions League after beating FC Porto 4-2 on penalties at the Emirates Stadium in London on Tuesday night in a game where the score was by 1-0 (1-0, 1-0), both after the regular 90 minutes and after extra time.

After FC Porto beat “Dragao” 1-0, in the first leg of the round of 16, the “gunners” equalized the situation overall with the goal of the Belgian Leandro Trossard (41), and in the penalty kicks the hero was goalkeeper David Raya, who saved the shots of Wendell and Galeno.

In overtime, nothing notable happened, so everything was decided on penalties.

They took the penalty kicks in order: Martin Oedegaard 1-0 (goal), Pepe Aquino 1-1 (goal), Kai Havertz 2-1 (goal), Wendell 2-1 (miss – saved by David Raya), Bukayo Saka 3-1 (goal), Marko Grujic 3-2 (goal), Declan Rice 4-2 (goal), Galeno 4-2 (miss – saved by David Raya).

Arsenal ended a streak of seven consecutive eliminations from the competition in the round of 16.

Previously, the current winner of the tournament, the English team Manchester City, the German team Bayern Munich, Paris Saint-Germain (France), Real Madrid and Barcelona (both Spain) reached the quarter-finals of the Champions League.

The draw for the quarter-finals will take place on March 15. The first leg will be played on April 9 and 10, and the second leg will take place on April 16 and 17.

The Champions League final will take place on June 1 at Wembley Stadium in London.
