Quentin Griffiths, co-founder of online fashion retailer ASOS, died after falling from the balcony of an apartment building in the Thai resort town of Pattaya.
A police investigator told the BBC that Griffiths, who held a British passport, was alone, his room was locked from the inside, and there were no signs of a break-in at the time of his death. The autopsy indicated no evidence of the involvement of another person.
Griffiths co-founded ASOS in 2000 and remained a major shareholder after leaving the company five years later.
The police also stated that Griffiths was found dead outside a luxury hotel where he had lived for a long time, in an apartment located on the 17th floor.
Police also said he was involved in two ongoing trials, which could have caused him stress.
Griffiths was separated from his second wife, a Thai national, and was reportedly in a dispute with her over a business they ran together.
He founded ASOS in London with Nick Robertson, Andrew Regan and Deborah Thorpe.
The company’s name originally came from the phrase “As Seen On Screen”as it sold clothing items inspired by the outfits worn by television and movie stars.
The company grew to become an online fashion marketplace that carries hundreds of brands as well as its own collections, and at one point was valued at over £6 billion.
Its biggest shareholders include Danish billionaire Anders Holch Povlsen, owner of Danish clothing giant Bestseller, and Mike Ashley, owner of Frasers Group.
