Attention, tourists! There is only one lane on the Friendship Bridge. How long does the restriction last?

New repair works are being carried out at the Giurgiu-Ruse Friendship Bridge. These take place during the day, with traffic in the area taking place on a lane with a passing regime, regulated by road signs and signals, the Border Police announces.

The authorities expect traffic in the area to be difficult in the coming days. Moreover, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs sent a travel warning.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MAE) informs Romanian citizens who are in, transiting or intending to travel to Bulgaria that, according to the data provided by the authorities in this country, repair and asphalting works are being carried out on the road surface of the Giurgiu Friendship Bridge- Russians.

The repair activities are expected to last until June 15, 2024. They will be carried out during the day, on short road segments and will involve the organization and temporary regulation of road traffic on the bridge, with traffic taking place on a single lane with ensured by accessibility and signaling through road signs and directing staff”the MFA sent, on Monday, in a press release.

The works are taking place on the Bulgarian side.

The bridge has been under renovation for 2 years

And from next month, other works are expected.

In practice, Bulgaria is starting work to consolidate the bridge, and road traffic will be carried out on a single lane for two years.

At the bridge over the Danube, on a 1.1 kilometer section, the bridge plate, the asphalt pavement and all the metal elements related to the traffic lane will be replaced. The cost of the works amounts to approximately 22 million euros.

During the summer season, over 1 million Romanians cross the Friendship Bridge and Bulgaria to reach Greece.

The feasibility study for the Giurgiu-Ruse 2 bridge was approved

In February, the European Commissioner Adina Vălean announced that the feasibility study for a new Giurgiu-Ruse bridge, submitted by Romania to the military mobility funds, had been approved. The official expressed his hope that the Romanian authorities will move quickly and apply for the effective financing of the works, and the final project will also have a railway section.
