AUR officially requests the Presidency, the Parliament and the Government of Romania to declare 2026 right “The Year of America in Romania”, in the context of the 250th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence of the United States of America.
According to a statement sent by the AUR, the year 2026 represents “a historic moment of global importance”, in which the USA marks 250 years of existence as a state built on values such as freedom, sovereignty, democracy, faith and freedom of expression, considered by AUR essential for the future of Europe and Romania.
AUR also invokes the determining role of the United States in the global security architecture, emphasizing the influence of American leadership on the international scene and the relationship with the European Union.
“Under the leadership of President Donald Trump, considered in 2026 the most important global political leader, the American influence was felt both on the international stage and in the relationship with the European Union. The political, strategic and economic decisions of the American administration had a direct impact on the geopolitical direction of Europe, on the security of the continent and on the defense of democratic values in an increasingly unstable international context”. The political formation claims that the US represents a guarantor of freedoms in Europe and refers to the National Security Strategy of the United States, according to which America assumes the role of the main defender of democracy, political freedom and freedom of expression in an unstable international context. In this sense, AUR considers that Romania’s relationship with the USA is essential for maintaining political pluralism and national sovereignty.
AUR also shows that Romania and the United States are linked by a solid strategic partnership, with political, military, economic and cultural dimensions, and the US is the main guarantor of Romania’s security within NATO and a key ally in the Black Sea region.
The formation emphasizes that any major foreign policy or security decision, including those related to the developments in Ukraine, should be consulted first with Washington.
According to AUR, declaring the year 2026 right “Year of America in Romania” it would allow the strengthening of the Romanian-American strategic relationship, the organization of cultural, educational and academic events, the promotion of economic cooperation and American investments, as well as the reaffirmation of Romania’s commitment to the values of the free world.
At the same time, the AUR announces that, regardless of the decision of the authorities, it will declare the year 2026 on its own account “The Year of the USA in Romania” and will organize conferences and public debates, cultural and commemorative events, educational initiatives for young people, as well as public diplomacy actions and Romanian-American dialogue.

The year 2026 must be a year of freedom, sovereignty and alliances based on real values.
