Spectacular results at Baccalaureate 2024. We are talking about the highest pass rate in the last 14 years, a surprise that few of us expected. This, especially in the conditions where the National Evaluation was a real disaster.
The next “hop” for high school students who have passed the baccalaureate: college admission
According to data centralized at the level of the Ministry of Education, this year 76.4% of the candidates, students who are part of both the current and previous promotions, passed the Baccalaureate exam. As a comparison, last year 72.8% of students passed, and in 2022 a percentage of 73.3% was recorded.
Baccalaureate 2024. The secret of high grades: an exam accessible to those who have learned
More than 2,000 students got grade 10 in Mathematics. More precisely 2424. In the Romanian language, on the other hand, we are talking about a much lower figure: only 408 high school students obtained the maximum mark. “This year, the Baccalaureate came with results beyond expectations, very good!”Denisa Tănăsescu, mathematics teacher at the “ILCaragiale” National College, from Bucharest, told “Adevărul”. “The reason? First of all, it was an accessible exam, students who studied had nothing to worry about, although the topics covered their entire subject. They were balanced, well-designed subjects – from simple to complex – that followed the syllabus, with simple requirements, easy to understand and no pitfalls. Nothing interpretable. The candidates had no reason to make any confusion. It was not easier compared to last year’s exam”.
Training for 10 marks
In addition to the low degree of difficulty of the subjects, the students had at their disposal a lot of models and practice tests. “This year the students had even more didactic material at their disposal, to work alone, at home, privately, but also at school, together with the teachers in the classroom. I’m referring to those model subjects published by the Ministry of Education and according to which all the children who were concerned with this exam probably learned. The models appeared for the first time during the pandemic and those in the ministry have not given up on them since then. And they did well because the students got used to the demands of the subjects, the level of difficulty, the way the exercises are designed. They knew what to expect.”
Then, the teacher says, we are talking about children who have matured. “We cannot compare them with the 8th graders who gave the Evaluation. If we are to make a comparison with them, those in the twelfth grade know where they want to go, what they want to do in life. They are more responsible, they see their interest better”, the math teacher also pointed out.
“With how easily he gave them, it would have been the height of poor results.”
And in the Romanian language, the subjects were generous, accessible, easy for the students who prepared for this exam. “It’s no surprise that so many high marks have been achieved,” the Romanian language teacher Ruxandra Achim, from the “ILCaragiale” National College in Bucharest, stated for “Adevărul”. “No one tried to confuse the children. The notes are self-explanatory. This year it was a very easy exam. Too easy, in my opinion. I don’t know why they were given so mucht easy…it would have been the very best to have poor results”.
The teacher is of the opinion that any student who was attentive in class, who studied the Romanian language, who studied the subject could easily get a passing grade. “I also had poor papers during proofreading. Out of 100 papers, 25 were below grade four. I didn’t give a grade of 10. Instead, I had about 10 papers above grade 9. We have to admit that getting the maximum grade in the Romanian language is quite difficult“, said the teacher.
