Former president Traian Băsescu launches a new attack on political leaders, whom he accuses of taking decisions outside the Constitution and endangering the functioning of the state. In the context of the political crisis generated by the fall of the Bolojan Government, Băsescu claims that Romania is crossing “a moment of high alert”.
“Unfortunately, the level at which the political leaders are at the moment makes them obtuse in their decisions, makes them believe that what is good for them and their clientele is also good for the country, and I think they can impose decisions on the country that are not constitutional. In my opinion, we are in a moment of major crisis”said Traian Băsescu, on Wednesday evening, on B1 TV.
The former head of state warned that trying to find political solutions outside the constitutional framework can have serious consequences.
“We are in a moment of maximum alert. These people, the politicians, looking for solutions outside the Constitution, risk collapsing the state, risk making Romania a state without rules. Because that is what they are doing now, they have no rules”said Băsescu.
Traian Băsescu criticized both the PSD and the PNL, which he says put pride and political interests before the national interest.
“And some, and others, PSD and the key party PNL, treat things through the prism of personal ambitions. If you fail to put personal ambitions aside in a moment of major crisis, you have nothing to look for in political life”said the former president.
He went further, stating that current political leaders “almost betraying their country for petty interests, the arrogant.”
Traian Băsescu’s statements come in the context of the political crisis triggered after the adoption of the censure motion submitted by PSD and AUR against the Bolojan Government and in the conditions where the negotiations for the formation of a new Executive are still at a standstill.
