Băsescu said about the NATO Secretary General, Mark Rutte, that Romania should not trust him and that he “he doesn’t care about Romania’s security“.
Former president Traian Băsescu claims that the war in the Middle East created favorable conditions for Russia to advance in Ukraine and get closer to Romania’s borders.
“Anytime things can turn bad,” he warned on Romania TV, urging Romanians to be prepared for negative scenarios.
Ukraine, abandoned. Russia, advantaged
Băsescu is of the opinion that the military effort of the United States has moved to the Middle East. The pressure on European states to support Trump and Netanyahu is increasing. And Ukraine, ex-president says, is “simply abandoned”, writes Mediafax.
“Our battle must be to keep Europeans engaged in supporting Ukraine”said Băsescu. Otherwise, Romania risks waking up with Putin’s army at the border.
The former president also mentioned the blockade created by Viktor Orbán, which prevented the granting of 90 billion euros of aid to Ukraine. “Ukrainians are on their own resources. It’s hard to face Russia with only your own resources”he said.
The attack on Rutte
A harsh statement aimed at NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte. Băsescu met him in the European Council and says that Romania should not trust him.
He criticized Rutte’s message, which he considers to be aimed exclusively at satisfying Trump, not at the security of the eastern flank.
“It comes with the slogan: no centimeter of NATO territory will necessarily be defended. But now it tells you: let’s all go to the Gulf”Băsescu quipped.
The danger of a Third World War
The former president also raised a broader question. What would happen if NATO states sent military forces to the Gulf to support Trump and Netanyahu? What would be the reaction of Russia and China?
“Aren’t We Stupidly Heading for World War III?”Băsescu asked.
He called for a concrete US military presence in the Black Sea. “I didn’t hear Rutte say that we should put an American destroyer in the Black Sea”concluded the former president.
