Battle of the dancers: Red Bull Dance Your Style returns with the 4th edition, in Bucharest

Red Bull Dance Your Style, the global all-styles street dance competition, returns with its fourth edition in Romania! This year, the national final takes place in George Enescu Square in the Capital, on Saturday, August 31, and access is free. Introducing Shurubel.

Romanian street dance is looking for a new champion! 16 of the best dancers from all over the country will compete in dance moves in Bucharest on August 31 and fight for a place in the world finals that will take place in India in November. In total, Red Bull Dance Your Style is organizing more than 80 events globally this year to select the best dancers in the world and bring them together in Mumbai, India’s largest city with over 21 million inhabitants .

From 16 to 1. The public chooses the winner

In Bucharest and everywhere in the world, the Red Bull Dance Your Style final is played one on one, in 4-minute rounds. After each round, the spectators vote for their favorite via red or blue cards and send it on through the contest until the last one left in the fight. Even if the dance styles are different and hip-hop ends up fighting with popping or dancehall with house, the audience’s heart is won by whoever improvises more convincingly on whatever music is playing in the speakers. The choreographies are not rehearsed and the music is not known in advance. From funk to pop, rock, hip-hop, disco and more, the 16 have just seconds to adjust their moves to the hits served up from the turntables by DJ Dxnger, herself a competitor in the 2022 edition.

The long road to the national final. The 16 Romanian dancers went through intense dance battles to get here. Some of them qualified after winning independent local dance events with hundreds of dancers participating, such as Feed the Flame, Women Fueled by Passion, Roots & Rhythms, Street Groove Jam or Linoleum Battle. Others went through a qualification stage that took place in Brașov, in July, held on the same day when Majid Kessab, triple world champion in street-dance, held, for the first time in Romania, a special dance workshop for them.

Shurubel, MC: “I expect to see movements I have never heard of before and I expect to see the sweat on their brows. At that moment I will know and the audience will know that they are dancing at 110%. It is a much bigger challenge from my point of view that there is dancing in George Enescu Square. In stand-up comedy, when you tell jokes on a closed stage, you hear the audience’s laughter and applause echoing back to you from the walls of the venue. It’s the same in dance, you need the energy to be channeled in your direction. In George Enescu Square, the audience will be spectacular and noisy, I’m sure, but I think a dancer will have to give even more, to feel that the shouts and applause are coming directly to him! I tell competitors first and foremost not to doubt themselves. Now is the time to enjoy every second of the mix, to move with joy and, in the end, the victory will be the most beautiful bonus“.

Adam Chițu, winner of Red Bull Dance Your Style 2023: “Since winning the Red Bull Dance Your Style 2023 title, I have started to be recognized by more people, which has brought me many opportunities. I received invitations to important events, participated in workshops and continued to train to win several national and international competitions. The experience I had at the global finals in Frankfurt 2023 was truly unforgettable, as it changed my whole mindset in every aspect, from dancing to the way I behave and dress. I’ve learned and grown so much since my last run that I feel more prepared and motivated than ever to bring this win home“.

Dozens of countries are sending their representatives today in the battle for the great Red Bull Dance Your Style title. From 2018 until now, the Red Bull Dance Your Style megashow has put the spotlight on some of the world’s hottest street dancers. From 14 countries and 29 events in the first season, the qualifiers have expanded significantly, now reaching 80 events worldwide. In 2019, the supreme title of the competition was won by the Dutchman Shinshan, with a unique mix of house, hip-hop and capoeira-influenced locking, in 2022, the trophy was awarded to the Japanese D Soraki, with a fabulous show of hip- hop, almost acrobatic, and in 2023, the 1st place was snatched for the first time by a woman, South Korean Waackxxxy, who captivated the audience with her ultra-fast, mesmerizing moves in an electrifying final last year in Frankfurt.

A strong demonstration of infectious energy, the international all-styles street-dance competition Red Bull Dance Your Style reached its fourth edition in Romania this year. In 2021, the first edition of Red Bull Dance Your Style in Romania celebrated Romanian street-dance in an extraordinary show at the Herăstrău Summer Theatre: 1,000 spectators, 16 exceptional dancers, 15 electrifying duels, 3 hours of prolonged applause. Then, Sătănel managed to win the hearts of the public without appeal. In 2022, Impulse was crowned the king of the dance floor in a sold-out show at Circul Metropolitan Bucharest, in front of 1500 people, and in 2023, Adam made a sensation with a dynamic, incredible hip-hop.
