Black and white with Schengen entry. Ciucă contradicts the term given by Ciolacu: “It cannot be technically fulfilled”

Nicolae Ciucă rejected Marcel Ciolacu’s assertions about Romania’s entry into Schengen on January 1, 2025, explaining that this objective cannot be achieved within this period due to the complexity of the technical procedures.

The PNL president and the party’s presidential candidate, Nicolae Ciucă, reacted harshly to the statements of Marcel Ciolacu, who stated that Romania could enter the Schengen Area with land borders on January 1, 2025. Ciucă mocked the PSD leader, emphasizing that the achievements in this meaning is not the result of recent negotiations with European officials, as Ciolacu let it be understood.

“What I managed to talk with Chancellor Nehammer is the political agreement. Mr Ciolacuwhen it comes… you know where it’s absolutely unfortunate? We don’t have to brag about other people’s work. Once again I tell you: I was the first and only Romanian politician received by Chancellor Nehammer in Vienna”said Nicolae Ciucă on Tuesday evening, in an interview granted to Digi 24.

The PNL leader also specified that no concrete term has been established for Romania’s accession to the Schengen Area. “We have not discussed any terms. We agreed together… please, can someone contact the chancellor and tell him if he told Mr. Ciolacu that on January 1 Romania will enter Schengen. It is a matter that cannot be fulfilled technically“, explained Ciucă. He added that, in the past, even the accession to Schengen for air and port entries required several months of technical procedures, and now Romania cannot promise a quick entry into Schengen.

“How can we tell the Romanians? I can’t tell the Romanians, I can’t lie to them, I can’t do this matter, just because I want to tell them: I’m the one who solved it! He didn’t solve it, because there was no way!”emphasized the PNL president.

Ciucă also mentioned that those who worked concretely to solve the problems related to Schengen accession are the Ministers of Interior and Foreign Affairs, Cătălin Predoiu and Luminiţa Odobescu, together with the Romanian ambassador in Vienna, Emil Hurezeanu, and their teams. According to him, their work was essential for the progress made in this file.
