Prime Minister Ilie Bolojan announced on Wednesday, during the General Assembly of the National Union of County Councils in Romania (UNCJR), that the county military centers could be fully administered by the Ministry of National Defense (MApN), starting from January 1, 2027. However, the Prime Minister pointed out that several aspects must be clarified in the coming months. The change would bring savings of over 7 million euros.
Prime Minister ilie Bolojan participates on Wednesday, February 11, in the proceedings of the General Assembly of the National Union of County Councils in Romania (UNCJR), on the subject of the state budget law for 2026 and the impact of the measures adopted by the Government on the activity of the county councils, where he emphasized that, in the coming months, aspects related to the lease contracts of some county military centers must be clarified, so that they can be passed in administration of the Ministry of Defense from 2027.
“One of the topics that was raised by UNCJR at many meetings was the transfer of county military centers to the Ministry of Defense. The understanding we made with the Ministry of Defense was that this transfer would be provided for in the law that would appear related to the administration, but would come into force on January 1, 2027. They had two reservations, on the one hand we needed a CSAT opinion, which would be complicated for us quite a lot of existence because it is a more laborious procedure.
On the other hand, they say that the situation in the counties is different, these centers, in some counties are in buildings that are the property of the County Council, in other counties there are some structures, some rented buildings, and the aspects of lease contracts must be clarified, so that once these centers pass under the total administration of the Ministry of Defense, they have the guarantee that they are not removed from those premises in a short period of time. This interests them and we should, together with you, clarify all these aspects in the coming months, so that on January 1 next year you will no longer have these structures in your financing”. explains Prime Minister Ilie Bolojan.
According to the prime minister, the expenses for these centers amount to more than 7 million euros annually.
“From the data we have collected, the total spending budget of the County Councils on the military centers is approximately 37 million lei annually, so somewhere close to, how should I tell you, over 7 million euros. This is one of the topics we discussed in the past months,” says Ilie Bolojan.
