International cycle tourism became a reality in Timișoara with the opening of the Romanian-Serbian border on the bicycle track, built on the Bega canal embankment.
Cyclists can go from Timișoara to Zrenjanin (Serbia) on the longest bicycle track in Romania, located on the Bega river embankment and connecting the two countries. The track is 70 kilometers long, of which 37 are on Romanian territory.
A temporary border crossing point will be opened on this track.
“The success of crossing the border to Serbia on two wheels in the previous years made that, also in 2024, the Timiş County Council request the Territorial Inspectorate of the Timişoara Border Police to open a border crossing point every month, respectively two weekends in June, with on the occasion of World Cycling Day and September, when World Mobility Day is celebrated”, the Timiş County Council sent in a press release.
The request was made for the opening of a border point every last weekend of the month, between March and October 2024, between 8:00 a.m. and 8:00 p.m., next to the bicycle path built along the Bega canal between Timisoara and Zrenjanin , at the Romanian-Serbian border.
For now, only the months of March and April have been approved, and subsequent dates will be updated.
