The organizers of the Brașov Running Festival, the most important athletics event in the World Athletics calendar, in South-East Europe, want to double the number of participants in 2024, thus 2,500 amateur runners are expected to sign up for the 4th edition and over 25,000 spectators to experience the atmosphere of the festival, together with established artists.

This year, the 4th edition of the Brașov Running Festival will take place between September 21-22, in the Coresi neighborhood. The competition will also host, in 2024, in addition to the races dedicated to amateurs, children and juniors, the two certified races intended for professional athletes from the World Top 20: tRUNsylvania International 10K and the European Road Mile. Also, in partnership with the Romanian Athletics Federation, the National 10K Championship will be held as part of the competition, where Romania's best athletes will participate.
“The previous edition was a new proof that in Brașov we are building a large-scale event. Of course, this construction is done gradually, not overnight, but from one edition to another, the development is obvious. This year we want to be the running event with the most people from Brasov at the start, but to increase the number of runners from Bucharest, Cluj and the rest of the country. Considering the show offered by the elite athletes, unique in this part of Europe, we estimate that more and more people will include this competition in their calendar of personal events”said Daniel Santa, director of the Brașov Running Festival competition.
More runners from abroad are expected
According to him, 90% of registered amateur and professional runners were Romanian, while almost 10% came from abroad, from countries such as Hong Kong, Great Britain, Bulgaria, Turkey, Greece, Italy, the United States of America, Ukraine or Holland and also Kenya and Uganda. Thus, in 2024, as a result of the intense media coverage carried out in over 162 countries, the Brașov Running Festival is preparing to host a much larger number of foreign runners, mainly European among the amateurs and of African origin among the professionals.
In fact, the previous edition made the Brașov Running Festival an international stage preferred by athletes looking for great performance, with the women's 10K race becoming the fastest in the world, while the men's 10K race entered the top 10 fastest routes at world level.
Festival with 25,000 spectators
“A few years ago, we didn't even dream that such a competition would take place in Romania. The 10K Elite race is already one of those that super-elite athletes have in mind when setting their competitive calendar, and for Romanian athletes it is an almost unique opportunity to interact, and even compete, with athletes of such a level. Not to mention the spectators, who have the chance to witness races like few exist in the whole world. In addition to top athletes, we are counting on motivating the younger generations to gradually integrate running into their lives, and here we take care to offer prizes, competitions, concerts, good energy and experiences to match.” completed Daniel Santa.
Children, juniors and amateur adults benefit from an organized and approved setting, according to the world standards imposed by World Athletics, the sporting experience being completed by the festival personality of the competition. Thus, more than 25,000 spectators are expected to watch, at the foot of Tâmpei, spectacular races, the recording of historical moments, but also to enjoy the presence of musical artists.
Adidas, technical partner also in 2024
And this year, Brașov Running Festival confirms its partnership with Adidas, as technical sponsor of the event. Participants will run in professional athletic jerseys made from 100% recycled material.
Registrations are already open for amateur athletes in the 5K and 10K races, and in the second part of April, the registrations will also start in the children's races, by age category. Thus, on the first day of the competition, there will be races for juniors and children, of 800 m, 1,200 m and 3,000 m, and on the second day, there will be races for amateurs, of 5 and 10 KM, including the national championship of 10K.

Brașov Running Festival is the most important athletic event in the World Athletics calendar, in SE Europe. The competition, organized in Brașov, starting in 2021, comprises an annual World Athletics Elite Label-accredited 10 km road race called “tRUNsylvania International 10K”. The races are run on a loop with a length of 3,494 m, using the same finish line, but having starting points that vary according to the length of the stage.
