Crin Antonescu, appointed candidate of the governing coalition, announced that he is suspending the agreement with the Power leaders due to their lack of commitment. One of the grievances is that no date has been set for the presidential election.

“Qunilaterally, I consider this candidacy suspended. I received a proposal to be the candidate of a political coalition, I accepted it, I assumed it, it is an assumption from which I do not back down and I am willing at any moment to see it through to the end. We found that the other party to this agreement, the four political leaders, were not sufficiently empowered when they signed this agreement. For this reason I consider it suspended until their Lordships say whether this agreement remains in force“, Crin Antonescu declared to Digi24.
Crin Antonescu cited two reasons for making this decision.
“Nu we have an election date and I don’t understand why. From my point of view, if on December 6 the CCR decided to cancel the elections and repeat them, from the next day, the government that was in office should have given the closest date to the presidential elections. It is January 4, 2025 and we do not have the date. (..) It is difficult to explain and difficult for public opinion to accept. The second reason – I immediately entered the electoral battle, the shooting from all directions was unleashed, I entered this battle, I knew that there was no ready army behind me, only it seems unacceptable to me that after a week or two I see people from the parties that support me to come and say publicly that they don’t know, that we will see each other again, we have meetings“, said the former PNL leader.
Antonescu also sent a message to the leaders of the Coalition: “I have known some of you for decades, I think you need to think again, we suspend the agreement, think carefully, hold meetings and what you have to do, set a date for the elections, if you keep your option for my candidacy, you know where I you find Then I’ll think better and I’ll have an answer. (..) I am willing to be a candidate supported by this coalition, not for this coalition. If I’m still taking this break, remember that I’m running not because I’m interested in a position, but a country, not for parties, combinations, games, but for a country program, for president. I ask the gentlemen with whom I signed to think carefully, to decide accordingly”.
